“Here’s your first look at the Motorola P40 design and key features”

Motorola has been in the news for the past several weeks, thanks to a flurry of leaks around the upcoming Moto G7 series. However, that’s not the only product in the pipeline for the company as it’s also working on the 2019 models of the ‘P’ series that was introduced earlier this year. In partnership with @OnLeaks, 91mobiles is giving fans across the world the first look at one of the 2019 ‘P’ series models under development, likely to be the successor of the Motorola P30 and expected to be called the Motorola P40. While the original P30 did not make it to the global markets, we can look forward to the Motorola P40 hitting international markets with the Motorola One branding.

As the renders show, the Motorola P40 will be the first model from the brand to feature a display with a hole to house the selfie camera. This punch-hole design has been gaining traction rather quickly in the smartphone industry as Samsung, Huawei, and Honor have already announced their respective models with this design, namely the Galaxy A8s, Nova 4, and V20. Motorola seems all set to join their ranks, and the positioning of the selfie camera hole will be in the top-left corner, similar to the aforesaid offerings.

As for the size, the Motorola P40 will have a 6.2-inch display and the punch hole display will give it a full-screen fascia, without a notch. As shown in the images, the bezels on the sides are thin, while the chin is relatively thicker and bears the Motorola branding. On the left edge sits the SIM tray, while the Volume and Power buttons are placed on the right spine. At the bottom is the USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a hole for the mic. We can confirm the Motorola P40 will retain the 3.5mm earphone socket, which will be positioned on the top edge.

The renders show the back panel will have 3D curved edges for a firm grip on the handset. The highly reflective back panel suggests glass is the material of choice for the rear casing. The highlight on the rear panel is the protruding, vertically-stacked dual-camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, which will bring the new model at par with the likes of Huawei’s Nova 4 and the Honor V20, at least in terms of the megapixel count. Two LED flash units are placed below the camera sensors. The resolution of the secondary camera sensor on the back isn’t known at the moment. A fingerprint sensor embedded in the Motorola logo can also be seen on the back, along with the Android One logo. As for dimensions, the Motorola P40 will roughly measure 160.1 x 71.2 x 8.7mm; and the thickness will be about 10mm if we include the protruding rear camera bump.

That’s all we have about the Motorola P40 right now for you, but stay tuned for more details regarding the upcoming handset.
