MSI has announced full support for Intel’s new Core Ultra 200S Plus series desktop processors with its latest 800 Series motherboards. The lineup features Z890, B860, and H810 chipset models, made to unlock the full potential of Intel’s updated enthusiast CPUs.
MSI’s announcement comes shortly after Intel introduced the Core Ultra 200S Plus series desktop processors. Intel revealed the new 270K Plus and 250K Plus chips, which have higher core counts, faster die-to-die bandwidth, and better gaming performance. MSI is now providing the hardware needed to fully realise these improvements.

The Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors include up to 24 cores in a hybrid setup (8 Performance cores and 16 Efficiency cores). Alongside higher boost clocks and a larger L3 cache, Intel also raised die-to-die bandwidth by 900MHz. Brand has also expanded native DDR5 support from 6400 MT/s to 7200 MT/s.
MSI’s Z890 boards, like the MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI II, pair these CPUs with a 16-phase Duet Rail Power System and larger heatsinks to ensure stable power delivery during heavy use. The platform supports PCIe 5.0, Thunderbolt 4, 5G LAN, Wi-Fi 7, and high-speed USB Type-C connectivity.
Intel claims up to 15% higher 1080p gaming performance compared to earlier Core Ultra Series 2 desktop processors in the same range. Especially when used with the new Intel Binary Optimisation Tool.
The motherboard supports Intel’s new Binary Optimisation Tool, which works with Intel Application Optimiser (APO), XMP, and Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU). Brand says that when this tool is enabled, it can improve performance in certain games. This can be done by optimising instruction handling at the software level. Users could expect smoother frame rates in supported titles without needing manual adjustments. Though performance improvements will depend on the workload and setup.
This ATX board targets enthusiasts and gamers. It features PCIe 5.0, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, 5G LAN, and DDR5 support. The 16-phase power design ensures stable overclocking and ongoing performance. MSI also includes EZ DIY features like one-click GPU release and tool-free M.2 installation to make building easier.
Aimed at professionals and productivity users, this board has a 12-phase Duet Rail Power System, Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5G LAN, and USB 20Gbps Type-C. It maintains the performance capabilities of the Z890 chipset in a design more focused on business use.
Built on the Intel B860 chipset, this Micro-ATX motherboard is made for mainstream gamers. It includes a 12-phase power design, Wi-Fi 6E, Intel Killer 5G LAN, and USB 10Gbps Type-C connectivity.
Intel has refreshed the engine, and MSI is reinforcing the chassis around it. Together, they position the 200S Plus ecosystem as a more developed enthusiast platform aimed at gamers, creators, and overclockers. Basically, those who want higher clocks, lower latency, and better memory capacity without needing to switch to an entirely new socket.
MSI seems to be doubling down on platform readiness with this launch. Instead of treating this as a minor refresh, the company is positioning its 800 Series as the definitive base for Intel’s new enthusiast push. Brand is playing it smart here; they’re keeping the 800-series crowd happy with backward compatibility while tempting everyone else with beefed-up new hardware. It’s the perfect mix of ‘don’t break what works’ and ‘here’s something better.’
For buyers, this means the Core Ultra 200S Plus launch isn’t just a CPU update; it’s part of a larger platform effort. With AMD also expanding its Ryzen AI 400 desktop lineup, the high-performance desktop segment is clearly entering another competitive phase. Where platform stability, AI acceleration, and gaming optimisation will all be important factors.
