[MWC 2019]: Xiaomi Mi 9 with Snapdragon 855 SoC and triple cameras announced globally

Xiaomi today announced the global launch of the Mi 9 flagship at a pre-MWC event in Barcelona, Spain. Notably, the phonemaker had launched the Mi 9 flagship phone last week on its home soil, on the same day as Samsung’s Unpacked event. The flagship marks a couple of first for the brand, including triple rear cameras and 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, among others.

Xiaomi has announced that the Mi 9 price will be €499 (about Rs 36,000) for the 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage variant. On the other hand, the 8GB + 128GB option will cost €499 (about Rs 40,000). It will be available in Ocean Blue, Lavender Violet, and Piano Black colours in Western Europe. The smartphone will be up for pre-orders in France, Spain, and Italy and will be up for grabs via Mi.com, Mi Home stores and partner retail stores.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 ships with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with full-HD+ resolution. The display features waterdrop notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protective layer on both sides.  The smartphone flaunts an impressive 90.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. At its core, the flagship comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is a 7nm octa-core silicone accompanied by Adreno 640 GPU. The handset also gets a dedicated Game Turbo for gaming and fifth-generation optical in-display fingerprint scanner for security.

The smartphone offers a 48MP + 12MP + 16MP setup on the rear in RGB, telephoto and wide-angle setup. The camera setup is protected by a layer of sapphire glass. In the selfie department, the Xiaomi Mi 9 gets a 20MP shooter on the front. The smartphone has been rated next only to Huawei Mate 20 Pro (review) and P20 Pro (review), by DxOMark. The phone boots MIUI 10 based on Android Pie and is powered by a 3,300mAh battery with support for 27W fast-charging.

t the same event, the brand also launched the first commercial 5G smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 5G. The newest sliding smartphone from the brand retains all the features from the standard model but comes with Snapdragon 855 SoC and features the X50 modem for the 5G connectivity. It will be released in Western Europe in May this year and will work on the next-gen networks by the likes of Vodafone, Orange, TIM, Telefonica, 3, and Sunrise, among others.
