Netflix confirmed their ad-supported subscription offering back in April. Now, the streaming giant has partnered with Microsoft for the same. At launch, consumers will have cheaper options to access Netflix content. Marketers looking to Microsoft for advertising needs will have access to the Netflix audience and premium connected TV inventory. The streaming giant mentioned that all ads served on Netflix will be exclusively available through the Microsoft platform. However, no date has been revealed yet for the cheaper, ad-supported Netflix plan.

Netflix and Microsoft announce partnership

Netflix has picked Microsoft as their technology and sales partner for the ad-supported platform. Marketers looking to Microsoft for advertising will now have Netflix’s audience and its TV inventory. This new ad-supported subscription plan joins the existing offerings and offers access to the premium content at a slightly cheaper price but with ads.

Netflix says that these are still very early days and there’s still a lot of work to do. The long-term goal is to offer more choices for consumers and a premium, better-than-linear TV brand experience for advertisers. 

Talking about the association, Netflix’s COO Greg Peters said, “In April we announced that we will introduce a new lower-priced ad-supported subscription plan for consumers, in addition to our existing ads-free basic, standard, and premium plans. Today we are pleased to announce that we have selected Microsoft as our global advertising technology and sales partner. Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we build a new ad-supported offering together. More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side and strong privacy protections for our members.”
