Voice Isolation, as Apple explains, basically makes your cellular calls better by prioritising your voice and blocking out ambient noise around you. This feature, however, has to be activated manually when you get a call on your iPhone. It was already available on FaceTime and has now come to cellular calls too.

There’s a catch however with this feature. It’s not compatible with all iPhones and is available on the iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE and iPhone SE 2020.  You can follow these steps to start using this feature:

How to get Voice Isolation update on iPhone

Before we get to the feature, it’s important to note that iOS 16.4 is downloaded and installed on your iPhone. To do so all you have to do is open Settings > General > Software Update. Tap on the update, download and install it on your iPhone. The latest update is actually iOS 16.4.1, so you should have that too. Once your iPhone is updated you can start using the new feature.

1. First you need to make a call on your iPhone.
2. Once you answer the call, pull down the Control Center.
3. Then tap on Microphone Mode that’s located on the top centre of the screen.
4. From here, select Voice Isolation from the list of options available.

Now all calls on your iPhone will have Voice Isolation turned on, so you should have clearer conversations. This feature is helpful in situations where there is too much background noise.
