New Redmi Note India launch teased on Amazon, expected to be the Redmi Note 17

Highlights
  • Xiaomi has officially teased the launch of a new Redmi Note smartphone in India.
  • The Redmi Note 17 is tipped to launch on August 6th.
  • Leaks suggest the phone could be priced over Rs 30,000 in India.

Xiaomi has started teasing the arrival of a new Redmi Note series smartphone in India, suggesting that its next mid-range offering could be just around the corner. While the company has not confirmed the device’s name yet, it’s most likely the Redmi Note 17, which is expected to debut in the country in early August.

The teaser comes just weeks after the Redmi Note 17 was unveiled in China, and multiple reports suggest the Indian model could retain the same hardware. Xiaomi has also published a dedicated microsite on its India website and Amazon, indicating that the upcoming Redmi Note phone will be sold through the online stores.

The teaser focuses on battery life, carrying the tagline, “When the days get longer, the mAhster takes over. The all-new Redmi Note is built to outlast them all.” This aligns with the Redmi Note 17’s China variant’s 8,000mAh battery.

Key expected specifications for India

Although Xiaomi hasn’t officially revealed the specifications, reports suggest the Indian Redmi Note 17 will closely mirror its Chinese counterpart. The smartphone is expected to feature an 8,000mAh battery, making it one of the larger batteries in its segment.

Powering the device is expected to be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, paired with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage on the base variant. The phone is also tipped to ship with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, alongside four years of Android OS updates and five years of security patches. For photography, the Redmi Note 17 is expected to offer a 50MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. The Note 15, meanwhile, came with an 108MP + 8MP rear setup.

The chipset is a downgrade from the predecessor, the Redmi Note 15, which debuted with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. Xiaomi could be trying to optimise costs here. The Indian variant recently appeared on Geekbench with specifications similar to the Chinese model, lending further weight to reports that Xiaomi may bring the device to India largely unchanged.

Interestingly, tipster Kacper Skrzypek claims the POCO M8 Power may launch in India soon as a rebranded Note 17. He spotted references to the M8 Power in HyperOS firmware. The model number indicated that it is an Indian variant closely related to the Redmi Note 17 that launched in China. With the POCO M8 Power already teased on Flipkart and Xiaomi’s Redmi Note microsite now live, Xiaomi could be planning to sell essentially the same phone under different brands through separate online platforms, a strategy it has adopted several times in the past.

Anticipated Indian pricing and availability

According to recent reports, the Redmi Note 17 could launch in India on August 6th, with sales beginning on August 11th. The base variant is tipped to be priced at over Rs 30,000. At this price, Xiaomi’s focus on battery capacity could help the phone stand out, particularly for users who prioritise endurance over flagship-level performance. However, it’ll compete with phones like the OnePlus Nord CE 6 which themselves have pretty huge batteries. That said, buyers may still want to wait for Xiaomi to confirm the official pricing and specifications, especially since festive sales often bring premium smartphones into a similar price bracket.
