Nokia 10 with penta-lens camera and 18:9 display reportedly in the works

“The Nokia 10 is expected to come with a penta-lens camera module at the rear, which will be a first in the industry”

Nokia recently confirmed its presence at the upcoming MWC, which will take place at the end of February in Barcelona, Spain. The rumour mill indicates that at the event, the company will be unveiling the Nokia 9 flagship alongside a bunch of other devices. The earlier leaks and reports have indicated that the Nokia 9 will be adopting a dual rear camera setup. Now a fresh leak on the Chinese social networking website Weibo suggests that Nokia is also working on the Nokia 10 smartphone, which will be the brand’s ultimate flagship for this year.

Nokia 10 leak

According to the report, the Nokia 10 will be flaunting a penta-lens camera module at the rear. The camera module at the back will have five lenses, one LED flash and a sensor on a circular ring, as per the leaked sketch. Below the penta-lens camera module, the device will also have a fingerprint sensor. The source also suggests that the Nokia 10 will flaunt an 18:9 display and a dual glass design at both the front and rear. If this is true, the Nokia 10 will be the first offering from the brand under HMD Global to offer a dual glass design.

While the source hasn’t revealed many details about the penta-lens setup of the Nokia 10, speculations indicate towards the presence of a rotating zoom camera tech from Carl Zeiss on the device. Zeiss has already patented a miniature zoom camera with multiple lenses arranged in a circular manner, which looks a lot like the penta-lens setup on the Nokia 10 in the leaked sketch. As per the patent, the five camera lenses on the module can rotate and come in the focal path of a fixed primary lens and detector. This will help in changing the focal length and providing users with a large zoom range.

The Nokia 10 is reportedly currently in the development stage, and may not be available before the second half of this year. The tipster also suggests that the Nokia 8 (2018), the successor to the brand’s current flagship may give MWC 2018 a miss, and could be unveiled later this year.
