The Nokia 3310 2017 was initially launched with only 2G support
Earlier this year, HMD GlobalrevivedNokia’s iconic featurephone – the3310 (review). However, being a basic phone, it came with support only for 2G networks, which was a deal breaker for many. The company later launched a 3G network supported variant since most carriers (outside India) have already decommissioned the 2G spectrum. Now, a 4G variant of the same device has appeared on the Chinese certification website TENAA.
The TENAA listing also revealed the images of the upcoming device from all angles and it follows the same design language as the 2G/3G variant. We can expect the handset to be made available in the same peppy colour options and in both single and dual-SIM variants. The listing has confirmed the support for 4G LTE networks and revealed that the device will run on Alibabas YunOS platform. Apart from these, we can expect other features of the handset to be the same as the earlier model.
To recap on the 3310, it ships with a 2.4-inch QVGA polarised curved display. There is 64MB of storage, and support for microSD cards up to 32GB. On the software side of things, it runs Nokia’s proprietary Symbian OSwith support for apps like Facebook and Twitter. There is a 2-megapixel camera on the rear panel with an LED flash. For multimedia, there is FM radio and an MP3 player. The device is fuelled by a 1,200mAh battery. HMD Globalclaims that the battery can deliver up to 6.5 hours of talk time, standby time of up to 27 days, up to 40 hours of MP3 playback time and up to 35 hours of FM radio playback time.
While there is no word on availability of the device, since the handset has passedTENAA certification we can expect the China launch to be just around the corner. As for the pricing, we can expect it to be tad bit more expensive than the existing variants. The Nokia 3310 3G has been priced at 69 (~Rs 5,300) and the 2G variant is on sale in India for Rs 3,310. It’s unclear ifHMD Global will launch the 4G version in India, but if it comes with support for VoLTE networks, it would make sense given the popularity of Jio’s network in the country.
