Nokia 7.1 with 5.84-inch PureDisplay and dual Carl ZEISS shooters goes official

“The Nokia 7.1’s PureDisplay technology offers support for HDR content”

As expected, HMD Global, the brand that holds the license to make and sell Nokia smartphones, has unveiled its latest handset. Called the Nokia 7.1, it has arrived as the first Nokia smartphone to utilise its PureDisplay technology. The device is a mid-range offering with the taller 19:9 aspect ratio, a notch-toting screen, dual primary cameras with Carl ZEISS optics, and two years of guaranteed updates to the latest version of Android.

The PureDisplay technology of the Nokia 7.1 allows you to enjoy HDR content on the phone from streaming providers like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime thanks to the support for HDR10 standard. That’s not all, you’ll be able to enjoy higher contrast (1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio) even with standard content, as the smartphone is able to convert normal videos to HDR ones real-time. This means that the phone’s display will be able to offer details in both light and dark areas as well as vibrant colours.

Moving on to the other specs, the 7.1 boasts a 5.84-inch full HD+ HDR10 display with a layer of 2.D curved Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Powering the smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. The phone comes in two RAM and storage configurations — 3GB +32GB and 4GB +64GB. At the rear, the handset gets a pair of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel cameras with ZEISS optics and a dual-LED flash. For selfies, you get an 8-megapixel fixed focus snapper on the front. The smartphone is also equipped with the Live Bokeh mode for both camera sensors.

In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 7.1 offers dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and GPS with GLONASS. The smartphone also gets a Smart amp with Qualcomm’s aptX support. Software-wise, the phone boots the stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo. The brand has also promised that the handset will be receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update soon after the release. A 3,060mAh battery with fast charging capability keeps the whole package alive.

Talking about the pricing, the Nokia 7.1 has been priced at €299 (~Rs 25,400) or €349 (~Rs 29,700), depending on the region for the base 3GB model, while the price of the 4GB variant hasn’t been revealed yet. The phone will initially be available to pre-order starting tomorrow in the European markets in two colour variants including Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Silver. Soon, it will be launched in the US, followed by a release in other countries.
