[MWC 2019]: Nokia 9 PureView with five rear cameras, in-display fingerprint sensor goes official

HMD Global has finally unveiled its latest Nokia flagship smartphone called the Nokia 9 PureView at the ongoing MWC 2019 in Barcelona. As expected, the device comes as the world’s first smartphone to flaunt five primary cameras at the rear. The brand has developed the Penta-lens camera setup of the flagship in collaboration with Carl ZEISS. Notably, the Nokia 9 PureView is the company’s first phone to boast an under-display fingerprint sensor.

The Nokia 9 PureView has been priced at $699 (about Rs 50,000) and the handset comes in 6GB + 128GB configuration. It will go on pre-orders in select markets immediately, while the shipping will begin in March.

Starting with the camera features first, the Nokia 9 PureView’s Penta-Lens setup comprises two 12MP RGB sensors and three 12MP monochrome lenses, all of which feature autofocus and f/1.8 aperture. The smartphone captures all photos in HDR, and all five sensors of the phone capture separate images, which are fused into one 12MP photo. The device lets you capture uncompressed RAW images in DNG format, which you can edit directly on the phone using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom application. For selfies, the handset is equipped with a 20-megapixel camera.

Moving on to the other specs, the Nokia 9 PureView sports a 5.99-inch QHD+ pOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone also features the Nokia PureDisplay screen technology that features HDR10 support, allowing you to enjoy HDR content on the device from streaming providers like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Software-wise, the handset boots Android Pie out of the box.

While most of the recently-launched flagships are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, the Nokia 9 PureView settles with the older Snapdragon 845 platform. The phone comes in a single RAM and storage variant that offers 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In terms of connectivity, the device offers LTE Cat. 16, Wi-Fi with 4×4 MIMO, single and dual-SIM variants, and a USB Type-C port. A 3,320mAh battery with fast charging keeps the package running. The device offers wireless charging as well.
