Fresh from the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and Headphone (1), the next major news from the young company will be its software. Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, has teased the arrival of the Android 16-based Nothing 4.0 update during the launch event. The top executive mentioned that Nothing OS 4.0 will ship “later this autumn,” i.e. between September and November. To recall, Android 16 was released by Google last month for the Pixel devices.
Going into details, at the end of the Nothing Phone (3) launch video posted on the brand’s official YouTube channel, Carl Pei said that the handset runs on Nothing OS 3.5 out of the box but clarified that the company will ship Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 to devices “later this autumn”. This is the period between September and November. However, Carl hasn’t delved into the features of the updates.
Details regarding the Nothing OS 4.0 are under wraps at the moment, but we can speculate that the Nothing Phone (3) will be the first to get the update, followed by other models. There are chances the OS might bring new AI features, improved Essential Space experiences and more.
To recall, the Nothing OS 3.0 update was unveiled in September last year, with the beta testing commencing in October. The stable updated started shipping in December 2024. It is possible that Nothing 4.0 might start beta testing for older models before the stable version is pushed eventually.
While we wait for the Nothing OS 4.0 update, here’s a recap of the Phone (3) specs. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, and is touted as the first “true flagship” from the brand. In comparison, the Nothing Phone (2) features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The Nothing Phone (3) sports a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 4,500 nits peak brightness and Gorilla Glass 7i protection.
The handset packs a 5,500mAh battery with 65W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging. This is a sizeable jump from the 4,700mAh cell on the Phone (2) and 45W fast wired charging.
The Nothing Phone (3) features a triple camera setup, with a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens. It has a 50MP front camera for selfies. The camera department has seen a notable jump from dual 50MP sensors on the Nothing Phone (2).
The Nothing Phone (3) is priced at Rs 79,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model and Rs 89,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant. The handset will be on sale from July 15th in India via Flipkart, Flipkart Minutes, Vijay Sales, Croma, and leading retail stores.
