“The nubia Z17 is the world’s second smartphone to boast a massive 8GB of RAM”
ZTE’s sub-brand nubia has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone called the nubia Z17 in its home market of China. The nubia Z17 is the world’s second smartphone after the ASUS ZenFone AR to boast a massive 8GB of RAM. It is also among the first smartphones to utilise Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, which is clocked at 2.4GHz and is mated to an Adreno 540 GPU.
The nubia Z17 features a premium splash-proof metal design and is practically bezel-less too. The phone flaunts a dual camera setup at the rear comprising a 23MP sensor and a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 2x zoom, up to 10x dynamic zoom and autofocus speeds of just 0.03 seconds. For selfies, it gets a 16-megapixel wide-angle snapper with f/2.0 aperture.
As for the other specs, the nubia Z17 features a 5.5-inch full HD display. The phone comes in three RAM and storage configurations – 6GB / 64GB, 6GB / 128GB and 8GB / 128GB. Software-wise, the phone boots Android 7.1 Nougat with the new nubia UI 5.0 on top, and has a built-in NeoSmart AI engine, which learns the user’s usage patterns. The phone is powered by a 3,200mAh battery that supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0, which makes it the first device to boast this new tech. The device also has the NeoCharge 2.0 fast charging technology.
The connectivity features include NFC, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, an Infrared sensor, Bluetooth and A-GPS. The phone comes with a built-in sub-woofer and supports Dolby panorama sound. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on board, placed at the rear. The device misses out on a 3.5mm headphone jack and doesn’t support microSD storage expansion either.
As for the pricing, the base nubia Z17 6GB / 64GB model has been priced at RMB 2,799 (~Rs 26,500) and the 6GB / 128GB will retail for RMB 3,399 (~Rs 33,000). The super-specced 8GB / 128GB variant will set you back by RMB 3,999 (~Rs 38,000). The first sale of the device is scheduled for June 6th on nubia’s official store and JD.com, and the registrations for the same will kick off later today.
