  • The Bengaluru-based EV startup maintains that the original design is safe

Ola Electric is offering customers an upgraded front suspension as an option after multiple incidents of the front suspension disintegrating plagued many Ola electric scooters. The single-sided front fork has in the past snapped and posed a threat to users. The company is now offering its customers an option to upgrade to a newer design of forks with additional bracing to improve its structural strength, and the same can be achieved by booking an appointment from March 22nd onwards.

Contradictorily, the company maintains that it’s older design is safe and has not yet called for a mass “recall”. Ola’s single-sided front suspension is sourced from Gabriel which also happens to supply many established OEMs.

Ola Electric offers front suspension upgrade option for its customers

Ola Electric’s front suspension upgrade comes after the company repeatedly faced slack for having a faulty front suspension which has led to the front wheel snapping off the body of the vehicle leading to near-fatal incidents. The Bengaluru-based EV startup has now rolled out a new front suspension with an improved design.

In a side-by-side image, the new design (right) clearly can be to have additional bracing likely to improve the structural integrity of the component. The Ola electric scooters have a more sophisticated single-sided front fork design which is more appealing than a conventional dual front fork set-up. However, it’s unclear if the design works well in Indian conditions, considering multiple incidents have already been reported. The Ola S1 Air interestingly is equipped with a conventional and more cost-effective dual front fork suspension.
