  • OnePlus 11 concept phone comes with a unique design inspired by the Active CryoFlux cooling technology

OnePlus today unveiled the brand’s much-teased OnePlus 11 concept phone at MWC 2023. The primary innovation the brand has introduced with this concept phone is Active CryoFlux, a cooling technology that can reduce the phone’s temperature up to 2.1℃. Just to make it clear, as it goes with other concept phones, this phone will not be made available for sale but elements from it can be used in future phones from the brand. Apart from unveiling the concept phone, the brand also showcased the recently launched OnePlus 11 5G – and how the device leverages in-built AR and ray tracing capability, thanks to the brand’s co-development of technology with Qualcomm and Perfect World Games. First, let’s dive into more details about the OnePlus 11 concept phone.

OnePlus 11 concept phone – Active CryoFlux cooling technology

As we mentioned above, the Active CryoFlux cooling technology reduces the phone’s temperature up to 2.1℃, as per the company. Apart from this, the tech has been claimed to improve the frame rate by 3-4 fps during gameplay sessions. Notably, the Active CryoFlux has also been claimed to bring the phone’s temperature down when charging by up to 1.6℃ – shaving off around 30 seconds to 45 seconds from the charging time.

Determined to push the limits, OnePlus miniaturized the industry-grade cooling capability of gaming PCs into a smartphone. The state-of-the-art Active CryoFlux functions with the industrial-grade ceramic piezoelectric micropumps at the center, connected to pipelines sandwiched between an upper and lower diaphragm. The micropump takes up an area less than 0.2cm2, enabling the liquid to circulation around the pipelines without significantly increasing a phone’s weight and thickness,” the brand said in its release.

In terms of design, the OnePlus 11 Concept takes inspiration from the Active CryoFlux and has a rear cover that shows the micro liquid flowing through the pipelines, which is completed with a magnetron-spluttering coating where metal and alloy are deposited in tiny amounts onto the case using an electric field.

The same aesthetic is found in the camera lens. The icy-cold Active CryoFlux liquid flows through the camera in a halo, and the lens area is surrounded by Guilloché etching, a very precise decorative technique that engraves an intricate pattern. This process is used in the design of several luxury timepieces,” OnePlus said in its release.

The phone comes with a glass unibody design with a deeply curved panel for a thinner bezel with a side pull-up height of 5.04mm.

OnePlus 11 5G announcements

OnePlus shared that the OnePlus 11 5G, supported by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, comes with support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing which is able to simulate real-time light effects. Till now, the only other phone series to support this tech was the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. OnePlus announced its partnership with Perfect World Games and showcased ray tracing in the Tower of Fantasy gameplay on the OnePlus 11 5G.

Further, the brand shared that the OnePlus 11 5G is the first Snapdragon Spaces-ready phone. The Snapdragon Spaces XR developer program essentially allows for developers to bring their XR ideas to life and explore the full potential of cutting-edge head-worn AR.
