OnePlus announces its 120Hz Fluid Display technology, may feature in OnePlus 8

“OnePlus’s 120Hz display panel offers a 240Hz touch sampling, 10-bit colour effect and MEMC motion effects”

OnePlus has announced its newest display with 120Hz refresh rate at the 2020 Screen Technology event in China today. The display come with a 2K or Quad HD+ resolution that will support a fast and smooth 120Hz refresh rate, as expected. The new display technology offers a 240Hz touch sampling rate and 10-bit HDR. It also provides a 4096-level automatic brightness adjustment and can also be adjusted based on the ambient light. There is support for multi-scene auto-dimming, and screen colour temperature dimming. OnePlus co-founder and CEO, Pete Lau said, “We believe that the smoothest smartphone display must also be able to deliver a superior visual quality and viewing comfort. We’re sure that OnePlus’s new 120Hz Fluid Display will be the best you’ll lay eyes on in 2020.”

It is highly possible that OnePlus might use the new 120Hz display in its upcoming OnePlus 8 flagship series. The company has already launched a few phones with 90Hz displays in 2019 such as the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro. So far, gaming phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 2, Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2  have offered 120Hz panels for super smooth animations, especially while gaming. OnePlus is now looking to be one of the fist mainstream companies to launch a phone with 120Hz display.

As for the OnePlus 8-series, they are expected to adopt the new punch-hole design to accommodate the selfie camera. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and will have 5G connectivity through Snapdragon X55 modem. OnePlus 8 Lite could come with last year’s Snapdragon 855 SoC. The Pro variant is said to rock quad-camera setup at the back and the standard OnePlus 8 could get a vertically-arranged triple camera module.
