“The OnePlus 3 and 3t are the company’s 2016 flagship smartphones, which came running Android 6 Marshmallow out of the box”
Ahead of the OnePlus 7 launch, OnePlus has started rolling out Android 9 Pie update to its three-year-old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. The update is currently out in the community beta form, but the proper build is soon to follow. This is the third major software update for the smartphones, which came with Oxygen OS based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. Both OnePlus 3 and 3T now match with the company’s latest smartphones, at least on the software front.
Interested users can enroll for the Android 9 Pie beta program with the respective handsets from the OnePlus forum. To do so, download the file from the link provided on the forum post >> move the file to internal storage root folder using the File Manager >> Open Settings >> Go to System update and click top right setting icon. The follow-up screen will give you the option to choose local update, tap on the downloaded file and wait until the device reboots. OnePlus 3/ 3T can also use ‘recovery mode’ to install the Android 9 Pie.
Here is the changelog of the new Oxygen OS 9.0 update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones: Updated system to Android 9 Pie; brand new UI for Android Pie; Android security patch to 2019.4; Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable setting; new Gaming mode 3.0; added text notification mode; added notification for 3rd party calls; deep integration with Google Duo; and integrated Google Lens mode in Camera.
As the update it’s in the beta form, updating OnePlus 3/3T to Android 9 Pie could bring some bugs and issues. However, these issues will eventually be ironed out with the stable update. Unfortunately, we don’t have the actual release date for the final release at the moment.
