OnePlus 5 and 5T start receiving OxygenOS Open Beta 27 and 25 update

“OxygenOS Open Beta OTA updates are only available for users who have installed a previous beta.”

OnePlus is currently rolling out some new beta software for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The latest OxygenOS Open beta updates are only available for those who have installed a previous beta version on their device. For the OnePlus 5, the latest beta update is OxygenOS Open beta 27, whereas the OnePlus 5T is receiving Open Beta 25. The updates for both devices include the same changes.

This is a minor beta update and doesn’t really bring anything big to the table. According to the official change-log by OnePlus, the update enhances the Gaming Mode on the devices and also adds weather information in the World Clock. However, some users are already complaining that the weather information isn’t showing for some users. It could just be an issue with the app cache, and clearing it should solve the issue.

The update doesn’t include any Android security patches. In fact, both the OnePlus 5 and 5T are still running on the January security patch. We are almost done with February and OnePlus has yet to include the February Android patch in its updates. The newer OnePlus smartphones have already received the patch. In the last Open Beta 25 and 23 update for OnePlus 5 and 5T, the company included deep Google Duo integration. Users in India also received a caller identification feature.

The Gaming Mode, when enabled, allows users to play games without being disturbed by messages. This feature has received some enhancements, but OnePlus hasn’t really discussed the changes. The beta updates are being seeded over-the-air and weigh around 380MB. Before downloading, we recommend that your phone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection. Also, the new updates are safe to install and will not cause your phone to brick. The previous Open betas had a bug that caused the phones to brick and go in to a boot loop. OnePlus immediately stopped the roll-out and asked users to install an older beta.

Open beta updates will have some bugs and can cause issues, therefore, only install it if you know what you’re doing.
