“OnePlus introduced a brand new UI for Android Pie, new navigation gestures, security patch to 2018.11 and more.”
OnePlus has released the Android 9.0 Pie OxygenOS Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T, its two smartphones of 2017. A week ago, the brand released the Android 9 Pie-based HydrogenOS Open Beta for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T in China. On the OnePlus official forum, the company has made the announcement of the new beta build, but has given no information regarding when we can expect the stable build to become available.
Going through the details of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Android Pie-based OxygenOS beta changelog, we get the new UI, optimised background app process handling, November 2018 Android security patch, and a new DND (Do Not Disturb) mode with adjustable settings. However, the navigation gestures are coming only to OnePlus 5T with this build.
In the communication department, the company has added UI improvement for the emergency rescue and an optimised UI for speed dial and calling interface. It has also provided users to use a default SIM for specific contact or group of contacts if using dual SIM. There is an improved support to add the likes of Discord, Telegram, IMO, Ola and Uber in Parallel Apps. Users will also find improved Weather app with more accurate weather data, ability to switch to the current location, location suggestions while searching, and more.
Users who already have the Android 8.1 Oreo OxygenOS Open Beta ROM would not require to manually install the update. However, for the non-beta programme users, a manual installation of ROM would be required, which can be found in the OnePlus website. It is important to know that once the users shift to Open Beta programme, they won’t receive the stable OTAs in the future. Moreover, for the beta software, the built are not as stable as the official OTAs, hence there are chances of bugs to easily affect the system.
