OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T open beta updates brings bug fixes and July 2019 Android security patch

“The update fixes a quick reply bug and adds the July security patch”

After a beta release in early July that brought screen recording, OnePlus is now delivering new open beta updates for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. The new open beta update 22 for the OnePlus 6 and open beta 14 for its successor have the same changelog and are generally intended to fix bugs and improve optimisation in some areas. More importantly, the new OnePlus updates also fix a bug that doesn’t allow users to quick reply in landscape mode in the camera app. The changelog also indicates that the Android security patch has been updated to July 2019.

With the new open beta updates, the OnePlus 6 and 6T’s File Manager now has an improved UI with optimised bottom navigation and stability. Miscellaneous improvements include adding more types of data migration capabilities and a clock widget on the home screen. That’s pretty much it. If you’re in the beta community, these updates will hit your devices via an OTA, if they’re already not there.

oneplus_6t_feat2The previous few betas have brought interesting new features to these one-year-old handsets. The last beta brought screen-recording feature which is on the OnePlus 7 series while Digital Wellbeing and ZenMode were also introduced to these smartphones. Sadly though, there’s still no sign of NightScape 2.0 while other features from the OnePlus 7 series have been served to the OnePlus 6/ 6T. The company assures users that it will support two full Android upgrade cycles, as well as three years of security updates for all its devices and that means the duo should also be in line to get Android Q.

OnePlus 6 was released in May 2018 and features a 6.28-inch full HD+ display with a contemporary notch design. Under the hood, it has Qualcomm’s former flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC and boots Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. It has dual cameras composed of a 16MP main shooter and a 20MP secondary lens and is powered by a 3,300mAh battery. The OnePlus 6T is arguably an iterative upgrade, with mostly the same internals as its predecessor but with a waterdrop notch design and a bigger battery by sacrificing the 3.5mm jack. It comes with Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.
