OnePlus 6T OxygenOS version will bring a whole new UI, improved gestures

“The OxygenOS version onboard the OnePlus 6T will be fast and smooth and provide a burden-less experience, with more AI features and improved gestures”
The OnePlus 6T launch is just a couple of weeks away and now the company has come out with a few details it will be bringing to the software side to whet the appetites of fans across the world. The new OxygenOS version that will debut with the OnePlus 6T smartphone will bring a whole new UI and be more intuitive yet. Additionally, it will improve not only the handset’s efficiency but also the camera performance. Summing up the software on the upcoming OnePlus flagship, the company says the new OxygenOS version provides “fast, smooth, and burden-less experience with no gimmicks.”

In an interview published on the OnePlus forum, Product Manager Szymon Kopec said the new version of OxygenOS will be most distinct and intuitive released by the brand so far. There will be algorithmic changes to make sure the camera takes better photos, as well as smoother user experience. The new software version, which will release with the OnePlus 6T, will come with an advanced Do Not Disturb mode and new navigation gestures too.

Talking about navigation gestures, Kopec said the experience will be more natural and smoother. An example of this will be how the application window will follow the user’s finger when they open an app. A quick flick from the bottom of the display to the right will let them switch between apps, and holding the power button for half a second will fire up Google Assistant.

The interview also confirmed the smartphone will run on the Snapdragon 845 SoC. The company is implementing an AI-based algorithm to “allow the phone to learn when you sleep, so it can minimize background usage and reduce power consumption accordingly.”

OnePlus’ User Experience Lead Crayon Hseih was cited in the interview as saying the company is putting in place full-screen gestures to allow users to navigate phones – which now sport ever-taller displays thanks to changing aspect ratios – with one hand. To achieve this, OnePlus has “spent a lot of time tweaking every animation. Every swipe was tested over 1000 times to ensure the motion felt natural.”

OnePlus 6T will come with the next version of OxygenOS onboard when it is unveiled on October 30th in New Delhi and New York. While it has not been confirmed yet, it is likely the build will be based on Android Pie considering the OnePlus 6 already has it. The smartphone was also spotted with Android Pie in a Geekbench listing just a day ago. It has been confirmed to sport an in-display fingerprint sensor and leave out the earphone jack.
