OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro launch set for May 14th, India event passes go on sale on April 25th

OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 7 launch date after teasing the handset for several weeks. The successor to last year’s OnePlus 6T (review) will be making its debut on May 14th, alongside the OnePlus 7 Pro – a flagship with a display that is said to have 90Hz refresh rate. For the first time ever, OnePlus will be launching two next-gen smartphones at once. The OnePlus 7 India launch event will take place at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, Bengaluru at 8:15 pm. Simultaneous events for the global unveiling of the handset will be held in the US and Europe.

“Together, we will celebrate the unveiling of the newest OnePlus devices with the biggest ever community event throughout company history with global launch events,” the company said in the press release. The company said it estimates 8,000 fans will attend the events across the three venues.

OnePlus has also shared a short teaser video of what is likely to be OnePlus 7 Pro. The video corroborates the leaked details of the pop-up selfie camera and curved display panel of the handset. It very briefly shows the hardware along with a speaker grill and alert slider that lets you to quickly jump between different call profiles.

Fans can head to the official OnePlus India website at 10am on April 25th to purchase the entry passes for the OnePlus 7 India launch event. The passes are priced at Rs 999; event attendees will get official merchandises along with the entry vouchers. Users who are not able to attend the launch event can head to the OnePlus YouTube channel to watch the live stream on May 14th. Going by the previous leaks and rumours, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro will have the same chipset – Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset – ticking at their core. The latter will reportedly be slightly larger in size, thanks to it rumoured 6.7-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display and, as the CAD-based renders suggest, will have a pop-up selfie camera.

The back panel of the phone is expected to flaunt triple rear cameras with a whopping 48-megapixel primary sensor accompanied by an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 16-megapixel 117-degree wide angle lens. For selfies and video calling, the OnePlus 7 Pro may rely on a 16-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture lens. Furthermore, the handset could house an impressive 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp charging support. It will reportedly come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 5G variant, and 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB configurations.

The OnePlus 7, meanwhile, will most likely have the same form factor as its predecessor. The handset may come with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with full-HD+ resolution and a waterdrop-style notch. For photography, it’s tipped to flaunt a combination of 48-megapixel (f/1.7) + a 5-megapixel depth sensor at the back. A 3,700mAh battery with 20W fast charging could fuel the device. The handset is said to come in 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB configurations, both with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
