“The OnePlus 7 Pro is slated to launch on May 14th alongside the standard OnePlus 7 in India”
In about fortnight’s time, OnePlus will unleash its next-gen flagship the OnePlus 7 series. As we already know, this year the company will announce not one but two smartphones dubbed as OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, simultaneously. The smartphones are slated to launch at an event in India on May 14th. Ahead of the release, OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera was put through paces by the folks at WIRED, and it reveals some interesting details.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is expected to come with triple rear cameras and the samples reveal what they’re capable of. The first image (above) gives us our first confirmation that the handset will pack a 3x optical zoom lens. “It doesn’t beat the Huawei P30 Pro’s 5x zoom… There are marginally fewer details, more noise and less mid-tone contrast in the OnePlus 7 Pro’s zoomed images,” added the report. The phone also has a 10x digital zoom onboard that is said to shoot video with stabilization to some degree and decent quality.
Moreover, the primary sensor of OnePlus 7 Pro will deliver a slightly cropped view, as it uses the 3x lens as a depth assist. The company says that the mode is “more natural” and that the effect should be “closer to what you’d get from a professional lens.” Apart from these, the handset also seems to have improved night and HDR mode. Thanks to the improved sensor and some software tweaks, the built-in ‘Nightscape’ mode has “less light bloom and a cleaner look close-up than its predecessor OnePlus 6T,” added the WIRED report. As for the HDR, “it much more natural this time, and the OnePlus 7 Pro holds onto realistic colour temperature and tonal fidelity well when lots of dynamic range-boosting is required.”
OnePlus hasn’t confirmed yet, but the 7 Pro is expected to come with a 48-megapixel primary sensor that is said to use “pixel binning to create 12-megapixel images.” It’ll be paired with an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom and a 16-megapixel 117-degree wide angle lens. The front pop-up selfie camera will bear a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens for selfies. In addition to these, the handset is also rumoured to come with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 855 SoC ticking at its core, and a whopping 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp fast charging support.
