“New phones from Google, OnePlus, Nokia, OPPO and Nubia are expected to launch in India in May”
Another month, another new launch to look forward to. Well, if rumours are anything to go by, there will be plenty of launches in May actually. Google’s I/O developer conference is scheduled for May 7th and we’ll see the company unveil the much-leaked Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus, is also launching its upcoming OnePlus 7 flagship series on May 14th. Other mid-range and budget offerings from OPPO, Nokia, and Realme are also going to be announced in May. So if you are looking to buy a new smartphone, then you’ve come to the right place as these smartphones are expected to land in India next month.
OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro
The new OnePlus devices are probably the most anticipated phones to launch in India in May. The company recently started teasing the phones and confirmed the May 14th launch date. This year, there will be two variants of the flagship, and they are going to be more expensive than before. While the OnePlus 7 will look very similar to the OnePlus 6T, it is said to get the newer Snapdragon 855 processor and improved cameras. In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature triple rear cameras, a pop-up selfie camera, and a faster 90Hz display. Both phones will also include an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL
The mid-range Google Pixel phones have also been highly awaited by a lot of users. The Pixel 3a (5.6-inch display) and Pixel 3a XL (6-inch screen) are expected to be mid-range devices, and reported to feature the same 12-megapixel camera that’s found on the more expensive Pixel 3 (review). That also includes the amazing Google camera software, HDR, and the Night Sight feature. Unfortunately, the phones will be missing out on the stereo front speakers, but will make up for it with the addition of the headphone socket. You will also see slightly larger bezels on the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. The phones will most likely be equipped with the Snapdragon 710 chipset and ship with a single camera on the front.

Nokia 3.2 and 4.2
As per the listing on the brand’s website, Nokia will be launching two new budget-centric smartphones in May — the Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2. The Android One-toting phones ship with the latest Android 9.0 Pie OS. The Nokia 4.2 is powered by the Snapdragon 439 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, a 5.71-inch HD+ display, a dual rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensor. It has a 3,300mAh battery, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Nokia 3.2 on the other hand, comes equipped with a 6.29-inch HD+ display, a larger 4,000mAh battery and the Snapdragon 429 SoC. The chipset is paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. In the camera department, there’s a primary 13-megapixel sensor at the back, and a 5-megapixel sensor at the front.
The OPPO A1K is a budget smartphone that will be launched in India on May 2nd. The phone comes with a 6.1-inch HD+ display that’s protected by a layer of the Corning Gorilla Glass. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 processor, which is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. A microSD card slot is also available on the phone. On the software side of things, the phone runs Android Pie-based ColorOS 6.0. For imagery, the device has a single rear camera with a resolution of 8-megapixels. Selfies are taken care of by a 5-megapixel shooter. A 4,000mAh battery keeps the entire package running.
Nubia Red Magic 3
The Red Magic 3 from Nubia is expected to be a flagship gaming smartphone. The phone should be launched in May as per rumours and will reportedly feature a 90Hz display and an actual rotating fan to cool the phone. Exact specifications of the device aren’t known yet, but it is said to be equipped with the latest-and-greatest Snapdragon 855 processor, up to 12GB RAM, a 4D vibration system and a 5,000mAh battery. We haven’t really seen any other leaks of the phone, but it could turn out to be a real head-turner with its design and features.
The Realme C2 was announced alongside the Realme 3 Pro (review) in April. However, it will only be available for purchase starting May 15th. The phone comes with a 6.1-inch HD+ display, MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor, and a 4,000mAh battery. The processor is paired with up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Despite being a budget phone, it features a dual rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing unit. For selfies, a 5-megapixel snapper is available inside a waterdrop style notch.
