“OnePlus is seemingly switching gears this year by launching two flagship models in the OnePlus 7 lineup”

We are fast approaching the launch event of OnePlus‘ flagship for the year, where the company is expected to unveil the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. OnePlus has surely come a long way in such a short span of time and thanks to its customer-first approach, the phonemaker has also amassed a massive fan following across the globe. Therefore, it’s only natural for the company’s yet-to-be-launched smartphones to get a lot of hype. We have witnessed a ton of leaks and speculations surrounding the OnePlus 7 and the higher-end OnePlus 7 Pro in the recent past and here is everything we know so far about the upcoming flagship from the brand.

From what we have seen in the rumours and basis 5K renders and 360-degree video, the OnePlus 7 Pro will look different from its predecessors. It’s expected to feature a triple-camera module and an off-centre pop-up selfie shooter. A recent leak also confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will move away from the black colourway and will be offered in some striking colours. If there’s any truth in the leaked image, we can see the OnePlus 7 Pro in Black Yellow, Black Purple and Cyan Grey gradient hues. However, a more recent leak suggested that the smartphone might come in two hues — Nebula Green and Mirror Grey. The renders, live images and most recently, a video have also confirmed the triple-rear camera setup and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

A more recent tweet from the company also confirmed that OnePlus 7 Pro will come with the water resistance of some kind. However, the brand has still given any sort of IP rating a miss.

An all-display fascia?

Speaking of the in-display fingerprint scanner, rumour has it that the OnePlus 7 and the Pro variant will feature the latest generation optical fingerprint scanner, which will be faster and more accurate than the one used on the OnePlus 6T. As for the display itself, with no fingerprint scanner and selfie camera, it will come with extremely narrow bezels and chin. We can expect the smartphone to offer an impressive screen-to-body ratio, probably above 90 percent. OnePlus recently confirmed that OnePlus 7 Pro’s display will be HDR10+ certified, making it only the second smartphone after the Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup to receive the same. Therefore, it came as no surprise when DisplayMate rated the screen on OnePlus 7 Pro as A+, which is the highest rating for a smartphone so far.

Recently, the live images of the Pro model revealed a 6.67-inch Super Optic display with curved edges  The display is rumoured to be a Super Optic panel and OnePlus is said to be sticking to the full HD+ resolution. What’s interesting however, is that the smartphone is teased to come with 90Hz panel, which will be a lot more smoother than the usual screens with 60Hz refresh rate.

Loaded internals

OnePlus has made a name for itself by offering flagship-grade specs at lesser prices than flagships and we don’t expect OnePlus 7 siblings to be any different. The rumours suggest that the OnePlus 7 duo will come powered by the latest flagship-grade chipset — the Snapdragon 855 from Qualcomm with the X50 modem to support 5G networks. The smartphone was recently spotted on Bluetooth SIG listing with the model number GM1915. The company has also announced that the top-of-the-line variant this time around will be a 10GB RAM model, unlike the McLaren Edition which was a limited edition offering. OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau has also confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will come with UFS 3.0 storage, which will make the usage quite smoother. On the software front, we can expect the smartphone to boot Android 9 Pie-base Oxygen OS out of the box.

Triple rear cameras and a pop-up shooter on the front

We already know that the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a triple camera on the rear panel and an elevating selfie camera. While there is no word on the configuration of the cameras on the back, a recent leak has revealed the setup on the forthcoming smartphone. In the hands-on image of the phone, we could see the About Phone section showing the camera details. Apparently, the camera module consists of a 48MP primary shooter, a 16MP secondary shooter which could be a wide-angle lens, and an 8MP depth sensor. We can expect the standard variant to have the same setup as well, though we will have to wait and watch if that’s the case. The front camera is still shrouded in mystery at the moment but is likely a 16MP unit.

Recently, folks over at the Wired got their hands on the Pro variant and shared some camera samples for all of us to see. These samples reveal that the smartphone will come packing a 3x optical zoom lens, improved night and HDR mode. According to the report from Wired, the built-in ‘Nightscape’ mode has “less light bloom and a cleaner look close-up than its predecessor OnePlus 6T.” The report says that this has been achieved through the use of an improved sensor and some software tweaks.

A beefy battery with faster charging support

Speaking of the battery, the Pro model is rumoured to be powered by a beefy 4,150mAh cell with support for the next-generation Warp Charging technology. The latest leak of the official retail packaging of the OnePlus 7 Pro revealed that the brand might offer a Warp Charge 30 in-car charger along with Wireless Bullet 2 earphones with the handset.

Sadly, we don’t expect to see any wireless charging onboard considering that the company has been very vocal in the past about not including the wireless charging technology on its offerings. This is simply because wireless charging cannot match the charging speed being offered by the proprietary Warp Charging (previously Dash Charging).

OnePlus 7 Standard Edition

Unlike every year, this time OnePlus is likely to launch two smartphones — the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. If reports are to be believed, the OnePlus 7 will use the same Qualcomm’s 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, without the X50 5G modem. Moreover, a more recent leak has given us a sneak peek into what the standard edition OnePlus 7 might look like. The smartphone looks exactly like the OnePlus 6T except for the LED flash module placed inside the camera module. Moreover, the OnePlus 7 will feature a dual camera setup on the back and a waterdrop notch, unlike its fancier sibling.

OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro expected availability and launch date

The Shenzhen-based company has confirmed that the OnePlus 7 duo will be launching on May 14th along the lines of OnePlus 6. To refresh your memory, the company launched the OnePlus 6 last year on May 16th. The pre-orders of the smartphone(s) have already started, which means that the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro will go on sale soon after their unveiling next week. In fact, this time around, you can also pre-book the handset(s) from offline stores starting May 8th.

OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro price

OnePlus has been increasing the prices of its smartphones gradually over the years and this year shouldn’t be any different. Earlier speculations were rife that the base variant of the OnePlus 7 in India will start from Rs 39,990 this time. Now, the Indian tipster Ishan Agarwal has revealed what looks like official pricing of OnePlus 7 Pro. According to Agarwal, the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will retail for Rs 49,999. The 8GB and 12GB RAM variants will reportedly sell for Rs 52,999 and Rs 57,999 respectively.

Prior to that, techARC revealed the pricing of the more affordable OnePlus 7. According to the market research firm, OnePlus 7 will come with a starting price of Rs 39,500.
