OnePlus 8 series is set to launch via an online event on April 14th. In the days leading up to the launch date, a lot has been revealed about the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones through reports and by the company itself. OnePlus has confirmed that the upcoming flagship phones will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor and all models will support 5G. Additionally, the company has revealed they will feature up to 120Hz refresh rates and will have A+ displays as rated by DisplayMate. We have also seen renders of both the smartphones in new colour options including Interstellar Glow and Ultramarine Blue. Lastly, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau also confirmed that the phones will be priced under $1000. OnePlus 8 launch date
As mentioned, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be launched on April 14th globally and in India. It’ll be an online-only event, which will be live-streamed on the official OnePlus website and YouTube channel starting 8:30 PM IST. Only the Oneplus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are expected, while the rumoured OnePlus 8 Lite mey launch at a later date.
OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro price
Since the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC and feature 5G connectivity, the prices are expected to be higher than the OnePlus 7T series. That being said, the company has confirmed the OnePlus 8 price will not cross $1000. The OnePlus 7T was launched under $600, so we speculate that the OnePlus 8 could come in at around $699 to $799 (approx Rs 53,000 to Rs 60,000), while the OnePlus 8 Pro may launch between $799 to $899 (approx Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000).
OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro design
We have seen official-looking OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro renders in recent days and in the past that all but confirm the design language. The phones will feature a cornered punch-hole cutout on the display and the Pro model will likely get a curved screen. Curved rear panel will see a vertical camera setup – the regular OnePlus 8 getting a triple camera system while the Pro model will get quad cameras. The rear panel will also show off the brand new OnePlus logo as well. You can also expect the latest get Gorilla Glass protection, a fast in-display fingerprint sensor, Type-C port and no headphone jack.
As for the colours, the OnePlus 8 will be available in a new gradient Interstellar Glow colour, Glacial Green and Onyx Black options. The OnePlus 8 Pro will come in Ultramarine Blue, Glacial Green and Onyx Black colours.
OnePlus 8 series specifications
OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro specifications include the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. As confirmed by the company, all OnePlus 8 phones will support 5G connectivity. The vanilla OnePlus 8 is said to feature a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the 8 Pro will sport a 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh. The phones will feature 2K resolution, peak brightness of 1300 nits and HDR support. The company has also confirmed the phones will come with MEMC technology that will convert 24/30fps videos to 60/120fps for a smoother playback experience. The technology will support apps like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, VLC, MX Player, and more.
Talking about the cameras, the OnePlus 8 will reportedly feature triple rear cameras that includes a 48MP primary sensor, 16MP wide-angle sensor, and 12MP telephoto lens. The OnePlus 8’s front camera, however, will be upgraded to 32MP from 16MP. The top-end OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone will house quad rear cameras that is said to include two 48MP sensors, one being a Sony IMX689 and the other being the IMX586 wide-angle sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom and a 5MP sensor. The front camera of the phone would sport a 32MP shooter.
OnePlus 8 is said to house a 4,000mAh battery and support Warp Charge 30T technology, while OnePlus 8 Pro could come with a larger 4,500mAh battery and support 30W fast wired and wireless charging. The OnePlus 8 Pro will be the first phone from the brand to support wireless charging and IP68 water and dust resistance. OnePlus is also rumoured to launch its own 30W wireless charger. Software-wise, the OnePlus phones should run Android 10-based OxygenOS out of the box.
