- The OnePlus 8 Pro is the higher-end device of OnePlus’ latest flagship lineup
- The handset is touted as the ‘ultra-flagship’ smartphone
OnePlus has launched its next-gen flagships, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, globally. The handsets have also been listed on Amazon.in and is expected to go on sale in India soon. While both phones bring industry-leading specifications and features, it’s the OnePlus 8 Pro that offers true flagship experience (at least on paper). The handset, with upgraded cameras, display, and performance, among other things, is now more on par with the premium flagship offerings from Apple and Samsung. Let’s take a look at the top features of OnePlus 8 Pro, which makes it an “ultra-flagship” offering:
Here are the top 5 features of OnePlus 8 Pro
1. Immersive viewing
After making 90Hz refresh rate mainstream last year, OnePlus has gone a step further introducing the OnePlus 8 Pro with an even better 120Hz display. This is double the refresh rate than most phones out there, including Apple’s flagship iPhone 11 series. OnePlus 8 Pro will offer ultra-smooth scrolling and fluid animation thanks to the 120Hz panel. The high refresh rate ensures that the images are redrawn on the screen at a faster interval, thus avoiding motion blur and lag, especially while playing games. The OnePlus 8 Pro can run 120Hz refresh rate on the maxed-out QHD+ (1,440 x 3,168p) resolution to deliver the best-possible users experience. And if you feel it takes a toll on the battery life, you have the option to go to Full-HD+ and 60Hz refresh rate.
The handset ships with a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED punch-hole display, which has been certified A+ by display benchmarking site DisplayMate. The OnePlus 8 Pro alleviates the experience with HDR10+ support, Single Frame 3-HDR, and HDR boost for all the HDR content for immersive viewing, MEMC technology that smoothens the video experience by boosting the frame rate from as low as 24fps to up to 120fps (frames per second).
2. IP68 rating
OnePlus 8 Pro is the first smartphone from the brand to come with an IP rating. The handset is IP68 water- and dust-resistant certified, which means it can survive underwater up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. It’s a feature many people have been asking for, especially after OnePlus went into the seriously premium league with the OnePlus 7 Pro last year. With the IP rating on OnePlus 8 Pro, it’s now more on par with most premium flagships from Apple and Samsung than ever before.
3. 30W fast wireless charging
Not just the IP rating, OnePlus has also introduced the 8 Pro with wireless charging support. It’s also one of the most sought-after features on phones, at least in the premium category. The vendor had been holding the feature on its smartphones thus far due the sluggish charging speed. Now that it has found the solution, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with Warp Charge 30T wireless charging, which is as fast as OnePlus’ 30T Warp Charge wired charging technology. The wireless charger is rated to juice up the device from nothing to 50 percent in just half-an-hour. However, the only caveat is that you require OnePlus’ Warp 30 wireless charger, which is available for sale separately, to achieve that speed. The OnePlus 8 Pro, to recall, houses a 4,510mAh battery – the highest ever in a OnePlus phone (period).
4. Quad rear cameras
As for the cameras, the OnePlus 8 Pro packs quad-camera setup to offer more versatility to its users. The setup comprises of 48MP primary Sony IMX689 sensor with an f/1.78 lens, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and electronic image stabilisation (EIS) support, an 8MP secondary sensor that has an f/2.44 telephoto lens and OIS support, a 48MP tertiary sensor with an f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, and finally a 5MP “Colour Filter” camera sensor that will bring artistic lighting effects and filters, along with an f/2.4 lens. Moreover, the smartphone offers 3x hybrid support and 4K video recording at 30/ 60fps.
5. Snapdragon 865
Ever since OnePlus came into being, performance has always been its top priority and OnePlus 8 Pro should be no different. The handset rocks the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is the most powerful chipset for Android phones till date, mated with 8GB/ 12GB fast LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The performance is further optimised by OnePlus’ OxygenOS, which is considered the best Android custom skin. The OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with the latest connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.1, and 5G, which means it’ll offer high-speed internet in regions with the 5G infrastructure.
These are the highlighting features of the new OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone. Apart from this, the handset also comes with Android 10-based OxygenOS out of the box, Dark Theme 2.0, 16MP front camera, and Ultramarine Blue colour option along with Glacial Green and Onyx Black. The OnePlus 8 Pro is yet to launch in India, but it seems to be receiving well in markets where it’s already available for sale. Despite the steep prices, as reported by 9to5Google, all models of the OnePlus 8 Pro went out of stock within 10 minutes. The OnePlus 8 Pro as well as OnePlus 8, to recall, is the most expensive smartphones from the company to date.
The OnePlus 8 Pro has been priced in the US starting at $899 (~Rs 69,800), while the OnePlus 8 starts at $599 (~Rs 53,000). Though OnePlus hints that the handsets will be priced in India more aggressively, they are still expected to come with a hefty price tag – thanks to the new GST rate on mobile phones.
