Rumours about OnePlus replacing its China-only Android fork, HydrogenOS, with OPPO’s ColorOS on the OnePlus 9 have been around for quite some time now. It turns out that those rumours are true, as a company official just took to the official OnePlus Forums to confirm this. The upcoming OnePlus 9 series of smartphones will be the first devices to mark the transition. Global versions of OnePlus smartphones will continue using OxygenOS, though. This move is hardly surprising, considering that OPPO overtook Huawei to become the largest smartphone manufacturer in China. It also points towards a closer collaboration between OnePlus and OPPO, which was hinted at by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau taking up a managerial role on OPPO’s co-investor.
OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro specifications
We found out about all the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro specs via a recent leak and through official teasers. Both phones will be largely identical except for the display and cameras. For starters, the OnePlus 9 will have a 6.55-inch display with FHD+ resolution. Its triple-camera setup will come with a 50MP, primary lens 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP sensor. The front-facing camera will be a 16MP unit.
The OnePlus 9 Pro, on the other hand, will come with a 6.7-inch display featuring QHD+ resolution. Both phones will have their displays clocked at 120Hz. Furthermore, the OnePlus 9 Pro will ship with a quad-camera setup at the rear with 50MP, 48MP, 8MP, and 2MP sensors. The 16MP selfie camera remains identical across both devices.
Both the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and come in two configurations with 8GB+12GB RAM with 128GB+256GB storage. Similarly, a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging will power both devices. The OnePlus 9 Pro is expected to support up to 50W wireless charging, too.
