At the beginning of 2024, OnePlus launched the Ace 3 and now the rumours about the successor, i.e., OnePlus Ace 5 have surfaced. This includes the expected Ace 5 launch timeline and specifications like processor, display, camera, battery and charging support. We also have some fair guesses about the Ace 5 Pro specs. Check out:
OnePlus Ace 5 series nomenclature
Before we discuss the rumoured launch timeline, let’s speculate on why that moniker.
OnePlus could skip the numerical 4 from the naming scheme and launch the Ace 5 series after the Ace 3 series probably because of the associated negative omen with 4 in certain Asian cultures.
We believe we never got the OnePlus 4 series due to this reason.
OnePlus Ace 5 launch timeline (expected)
Coming back to the expected launch timeline, tipster DigitalChatStation (DCS), who also tipped the new OnePlus Ace series on Weibo, claims the standard Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro could launch earlier than when its predecessor came out. So, since the OnePlus Ace 3 launched in January 2024, perhaps the Ace 5 launch could take place in China by the end of this year.
Also, as the Ace 3 got rebranded as the OnePlus 12R globally, the Ace 5 could launch in the global markets as the OnePlus 13R. It’s too early to tell though!
OnePlus Ace 5 specifications (expected)
DCS forecasts the following key specifications of the OnePlus Ace 5:
- Display: On the front, the Ace 5 could sport a 6.78-inch 1.5K 8T LTPO micro-curved screen while the Ace 3 came with a 6.78-inch 1.5K 8T LTPO dual-curved screen. So, less curves, we suppose!
- Cameras: The rear camera setup could consist of three sensors, the primary one among them being a 50MP unit. While that looks similar, the main sensor is said to be bigger.
- Processor: Under the hood, the phone could be carrying a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC whereas the Ace 3 ships with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The 8 Gen 3 is a new chip with more power (higher max frequency, newer GPU, more L3 cache, more memory bandwidth support and efficiency claims). Meanwhile, the Ace 5 Pro could ship with the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
- Battery: OnePlus could stow in a 6,200mAh dual-cell battery with 100W fast charging support. The Ace 3 has a 5,500mAh cell. The new battery could be featuring the company’s Glacier tech.
- Alert slider: Among other things, you could also get the signature 3-stage Alert Slider on the Ace 5. This could be to set Ring, Vibrate and Silent modes.
