OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra gaming controller revealed ahead of April 28th launch

The Ace series has usually been about performance at aggressive pricing. With the Strix G15, OnePlus is shifting some of that focus to how the device is actually used, especially for gamers where control and comfort tend to matter as much as raw power.

From the official visuals, it looks like the Strix G15 is designed as a wraparound attachment that turns the phone into a handheld console-style device. The grips extend out on both sides with a rounded shape, which should make a noticeable difference during longer sessions compared to holding a flat phone.

The red shoulder triggers stand out. They sit where your index fingers would naturally rest and are clearly meant for quick actions like shooting or aiming. The images also point to micro-mechanical buttons with a high polling rate (1000Hz) and low response time, suggesting a more tactile, responsive feel than touch controls alone. There are additional smaller buttons built into the grips, allowing more inputs to be spread across fingers instead of crowding the display.

At the centre, there’s a circular cooling module with an internal fan. The cutaway view shows active airflow, which means the controller is designed to manage heat during extended sessions rather than just assist passively. There’s also support for magnetic cooling expansion, reinforcing that focus on sustained performance.

The controller includes a built-in antenna for better signal stability and a bottom-mounted Type-C port, positioned so you can charge while playing without cables getting in the way. In use, the setup combines thumb-based touch controls with physical triggers, which should make multi-finger gameplay more manageable, especially for players who don’t want to rely entirely on on-screen buttons.

The controller and the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, that also launches on the given date, are built to complement one another. The phone is expected to feature a Dimensity 9500 chipset paired with a 6.78-inch 1.5K OLED display and a 165Hz refresh rate, which should keep gameplay smooth and responsive. Battery is a major part of the story as well, with an 8,500mAh unit and 100W charging aimed at reducing how often you need to plug in. The rest of the package includes:

Instead of turning the phone itself into a gaming device full-time, it’s keeping the core hardware relatively mainstream and adding gaming functionality through the controller.

The Ace lineup, including earlier Ultra variants, has remained China-exclusive, and this model is expected to follow that pattern. That makes this more of a contained experiment for now, testing whether a modular approach to mobile gaming can work without forcing users into a niche category. For users who play a lot of shooters, the controller could make a real difference to comfort and control. If not, the Ace 6 Ultra still stands on its own as a high-performance phone, with the Strix G15 staying optional rather than essential.
