“Pete Lau hinted that OnePlus will develop truly wireless earbuds to compensate for the 3.5mm headphone jack.”
OnePlus put up a very brave face when it removed the 3.5mm headphone jack on its flagship phones starting with the OnePlus 6T last year. It received a lot of flak from consumers as well for the very unwelcome change the user-feedback driven brand bought to its handsets. However, the clock is now about to go full circle and a Weibo post from CEO Pete Lau hints that the company will try to make amends. And no, we’re not talking about the return of the headphone jack (as much we would like it). Instead, OnePlus might offer true wireless earbuds along with its flagship phones starting with the OnePlus 7.
Lau said that the general trend of the smartphone industry has been of getting rid of the 3.5mm jack and a wireless earphone will be cherished by everyone. The official asked for suggestions from his huge following on the platform and also interacted with replies on his post. One particular comment, that caught our attention, urged the OnePlus head to hasten the new product to market. However, Lau commented that the industry is not “good enough” at this point and the OnePlus Bullets Wireless is also currently a good product.
The post on Weibo comes after Lau recently said in an interview that wireless charging is still not coming to the next generation of OnePlus phones. It is still one of the very slow options of recharging the battery and OnePlus is working on a faster version of wireless technology. The OnePlus 7 has leaked recently with a pop-up selfie camera and is expected to be in line with the OPPO F11 Pro, in terms of design, leaks have suggested so far. The launch date of the flagship is still not known but is expected around May.
