“OPPO’s Hyper Boost tech enhances the gaming, system, and apps performance, works on Qualcomm and MediaTek processors”
OPPO has announced Hyper Boost, a new technology the company claims improves the performance as well as power consumption of smartphones by better allocating system resources. The new Hyper Boost technology overcomes the performance and power challenges Android smartphones face when while running load-intensive apps by enabling real-time two-way dialogues between apps and system resources for a better overall performance, OPPO says. This comes a few months after the Huawei GPU Turbo technology was announced, with the same aim of enhancing performance by better allocating resources.
The new Hyper Boost technology works across the board and is said to improve the performance of not only games and apps, but also overall system performance. The tech is said to use ‘Behaviour Aware Scheduling’ or BAS to adjust the frequency of the underlying smartphone hardware in just 0.2 milliseconds whereas the standard Android kernel takes 20 milliseconds. OPPO’s in-house tech does this by using a newly designed Linux task scheduler. It can improve the system-level performance on smartphones powered by both Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets and can reduce app load time by up to 31.91 percent.
As of now, OPPO is working with Tencent, Netease, Unity, Unreal, and others to optimise the top 100 mobiles games. OPPO has optimised Hyper Boost for 11 current popular games, including the likes of PUBG and Honor of Kings, and work is on to add more to that list. Highly used apps like WeChat, QQ, and Mobile Taobao will also be able to make use of Hyper Boost to improve performance. The company also stated that it will further enhance the new technology with the inclusion of AI and collaborating with more game vendors to support more games in the near future.
The good thing about Hyper Boost is that it doesn’t require a hardware upgrade and we can hope to see the software accelerator land on some current OPPO devices with the OPPO R17 duo being the first to get it in China.
