“The OPPO design patent shows a glass ring above the camera sensors, which could be used for a yet-unknown marquee feature of the Find X2”
OPPO has been granted a new design patent by CNIPA for an upcoming smartphone. Thanks to this design patent, we might have our first look at the long-rumoured OPPO Find X2 smartphone. As you can see from the images in the application, the OPPO Find X2 will feature a triple camera setup at the back, assisted by an LED flash module, all in a crescent moon alignment. This is not just a departure from the brand’s past designs but also from any other camera setup design offered in the market as of now. Notably, one of these three camera sensors, which could be the primary shooter, is considerably bigger than the other two.
While it is anybody’s guess what the advantage of this alignment will be, we can notice a semi-circular ring right above the camera sensors. Perhaps the OPPO Find X2 will adopt this crescent alignment for the cameras because of the ring above. In that case, the ring could be associated with some marquee feature of the handset.
Coming to the other design aspects of OPPO Find X2 in the design patent, the handset in the patent renders can be seen with a pop-up camera module at the top. This pop-up module is bigger than the modules we have seen in most smartphones but smaller than the one on OPPO Reno phones. Pop-up module this size has been seen on the Vivo V17 Pro in the past, suggesting the upcoming OPPO smartphone could house dual selfie cameras. There is a USB Type-C charging port on the bottom side, sandwiched between the speaker grilles on both sides. Just like standard arrangement on most phones, there is a power button on the right side and volume buttons on the left.
One thing to note here is that this patent was filed by the brand back in February 2019 and has been granted now. Like many other patents, it is possible that this design never sees the light of the day. However, if this is an early look at the upcoming OPPO Find X2, we will have to wait and see how the brand manages to retain that ‘wow’ factor that the first flagship offered with its design and what the purpose of the triple cameras in crescent moon alignment is.
