“The OPPO R19 was previously expected to be a successor to the OPPO R17 smartphone and rumoured to launch in early 2019”
OPPO’s mid-range R-series smartphone may not get an update this year. The company’s Vice President Shen Yiren Brian has confirmed on Weibo (China’s Twitter) that there will be no OPPO R19 smartphone anytime soon. It seems strange since the handset has been in and out of the rumour mill over the past few weeks. Most recently, a teaser of OPPO R19 surfaced to reveal elevated selfie camera, in-display fingerprint sensor, and a whopping 48-megapixel primary camera.
Yiren Brian didn’t reveal which smartphone will be filling the void if OPPO R19 is not coming. Of course, there’s always the chance that a R19 Pro model may be released this year, but that’s just pure speculation at this point. The R-series has been the mid-range offering from the brand and its last release was OPPO R17 and OPPO R17 Pro (review) smartphones. Interestingly, the series also gives us a fair idea what OnePlus’ next phone will look, since the latter picks it up for its next flagship smartphone. Of course, the two firms – as well as Vivo – are backed by the same parent company, BBK Electronics.
The R series apart, OPPO is currently working in a new F-series smartphone, which is likely to be called F11 Pro. A teaser of the handset was recently shared that showcases the phone with thin bezels and a pop-up selfie camera smartphone. In a series of replies on the Chinese social network, Yiren Brian revealed that the elevating selfie camera mechanism would be pushed to emerging markets. Notably, the handset is already heading to India – OPPO is yet to confirm the launch date though.
Talking about its specifications, the OPPO F11 Pro is expected to boast of a 48-megapixel primary camera. The elevated selfie camera is tipped to come with a 32-megapixel shooter. Under the hood, the handset will reportedly rock a high-end MediaTek SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB user-expandable storage. It may come in two colour options with a gradient finish and a price tag of Rs 25,000. That’s all we know so far.
