OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: design
The OPPO Reno 12 features a plastic rear with a 3D design, depending on the shade. The Sunset Peach edition has a design reminiscent of the clouds of sunset, while the Astro Silver colourway flaunts a fluid pattern in silvery tones. However, the Matte Brown variant features a matte brown finish for a more sophisticated look. The back panel also houses the brand logo and a rectangular island, featuring a triple camera setup and an LED flash.
The Vivo V30, on the other hand, features a glass back, giving the device a premium look. Like the Reno 12, the V30 also comes with a 3D design. The Andaman Blue edition has a design reminiscent of the waves of the ocean, while the Peacock Green and Classic Black shades feature a matte-like finish. The rear also houses a rectangular island divided into two parts: one for the dual camera setup and another for the Aura ring lights.
While neither of the devices is suitable for use in the rain, the OPPO Reno 12’s IP65 rating offers better protection against water splashes than the Vivo V30’s IP54 protection.
OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: display
Both devices come with a curved AMOLED panel that offers a smooth viewing experience thanks to a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the Vivo V30 (review) has a slightly larger display with double the standard brightness level (1,200 nits) than the OPPO Reno 12 (600 nits). The Vivo V30 will offer better visibility in a sunny environment than the OPPO Reno 12.
Both phones offer protection against scratches for the display. While the OPPO Reno 12 has Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, the Vivo V30 features Schott Alpha protection. The Vivo V30 also features a slightly better resolution, which adds to the viewing experience.
OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: performance
The OPPO Reno 12 has the same MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy SoC as its elder sibling, the Reno 12 Pro (review). During our testing, this chipset scored 6,12,185 points in AnTuTu and on Geekbench, it secured 1,051 points in the single-core test and 3,006 points in the multi-core test.
On the other hand, the Vivo V30 comes with a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC which secured 8,04,164 points in AnTuTu, and 1,172 points in the single-core test with 3,235 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench.
Moreover, the Vivo V30 also ships with up to 12GB RAM, which should handle multitasking better than the OPPO Reno 12’s 8GB RAM. With these results and extra RAM, it’s clear that the Vivo V30 offers better performance than the OPPO Reno 12.
OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: cameras
While both phones have a 50MP primary camera, the Vivo V30 offers a better 50MP front shooter than the OPPO Reno 12’s 32MP front snapper. Moreover, the Vivo V30 also has a 50MP ultrawide camera compared to the OPPO Reno 12’s 8MP ultrawide lens. These high-resolution sensors will result in better details in pictures.
Another advantage of the Vivo V30 is the Aura ring light, which can improve the clarity of pictures in low-light conditions. However, the OPPO Reno 12 has an additional 2MP macro shooter which can come in handy to take close-up shots of small subjects.
Overall, the Vivo V30 is the better camera phone of the two, thanks to its high-resolution ultrawide and front cameras, and Aura ring light for better low-light photography.
OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: battery and charging
While both phones pack a similar 5,000mAh battery capacity with 80W charging speeds, their real-life results are completely different. In our testing, the Vivo V30 took 47 minutes to fully charge from 20 percent to 100 percent, while the OPPO Reno 12 did the same in just 40 minutes.
However, on the PCMark battery test, the Vivo V30 lasted 17 hours and 30 minutes compared to 12 hours and 18 minutes of OPPO Reno 12. Both devices dropped 4 percent battery after a 30-minute YouTube session. While the 7-minute charging difference is negligible in the grand scheme of things, the PCMark battery test suggests that the Vivo V30 offers significantly better battery backup than the OPPO Reno 12.
OPPO Reno 12 vs Vivo V30: software
Both phones ship with Android 14-based custom skin out of the box. While the OPPO Reno 12 runs on ColorOS, the Vivo V30 features Funtouch OS. Both skins come with pre-loaded removable thirty-party apps, customisation options, and themes. Moreover, both devices will get three years of software updates and four years of security patches.
However, the OPPO Reno 12 also provides AI features, while you don’t get any AI technology with the Vivo V30. The AI features of the OPPO Reno 12 are mostly photography-related, though.
Verdict
After taking every aspect of both devices into consideration, the winner is pretty clear: the Vivo V30. It offers a superior display, more powerful SoC, more RAM, better battery backup, and a remarkable camera setup than the OPPO Reno 12.
However, the OPPO Reno 12 is still a capable phone and offers AI features and an additional macro shooter, which you don’t get with the Vivo V30.
