[Exclusive]: OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition phones to launch in India by the end of June

Earlier this month, OPPO boarded the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 train and launched its first smartphone called the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition with this chipset. The phone arrived with a standard variant as well simply called the OPPO Reno. The new Reno series handsets are already on sale in China and will soon be hitting the European markets. Now 91mobiles has exclusively learned from retail sources that OPPO is also planning to launch the Reno series phones in India as well within this quarter.

According to our retail chain sources, OPPO will be releasing both the Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 855-powered variants of the Reno in India. While we don’t have the exact launch date at the moment, we’ve learned that OPPO is planning to launch the Reno handsets in the country by the end of June. Just like Realme, OPPO will be launching the new phones under a separate Reno brand. The Snapdragon 855 SoC-powered model of the OPPO Reno will be competing against the upcoming Vivo iQOO gaming phone with the same chipset. Notably, we recently exclusively reported you that the Vivo iQOO will also be arriving in India at some point in late May or early June. Interestingly, a 5G variant of the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition will be released at some point later this year, but it’s not clear if the company will be launching this model in India at the moment.

Talking about the specs, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is the brand’s first offering with the 10x lossless zoom camera technology it introduced at MWC 2019. The tech allows users to capture images with great clarity and accuracy, thanks to the support of the focal length of 16mm to 160mm. At the rear, the handset has three cameras comprising of a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 13MP telephoto lens. For selfies, the phone has a unique 16MP sensor that’s placed in a wedge-shaped pop-up mechanism, which the brand calls Shark Fin pop-up module.

As for the other specifications, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition sports a 6.55-inch AMOLED full-HD+ display with a screen-to-body ratio of 93.1 percent and a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 on top. The handset gets an optical in-display fingerprint scanner for security. The Snapdragon 855 SoC on board is aided by a 4,065mAh battery that supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging. The phone comes in three RAM and storage configurations – 6GB + 128GB, 6GB + 256GB and 8GB + 256GB. The other features include ColorOS 6, Dolby Atmos sound, a 3.5mm headphone socket, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, and Game Boost 2.0.

Moving on to the OPPO Reno standard edition, the phone comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and is fitted with a 6.4-inch OLED display layered with Gorilla Glass 6. The memory configurations include 6GB + 128GB, 6GB + 256GB, and 8GB + 256GB. At the rear, the device has a dual 48MP + 5MP camera setup with SuperClear night mode. For selfies, you get a 16MP snapper. Other features include a 3,765mAh power-cell with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support, ColorOS 6, Dolby Atmos, NFC, and Game Boost 2.0.

In China, the standard OPPO Reno phone is available at the starting price equivalent of Rs 30,000, while the 10x Zoom Edition ships starting at approx. Rs 41,000. There’s no word regarding the handset’s pricing for India at the moment.
