OPPO’s portfolio of 5G phones in India is all set to expand this year. After launching its first mid-range 5G phone, called the OPPO Reno5 Pro, in the country yesterday, the company is reportedly gearing to bring at least six more 5G OPPO phones in India in 2021. 5G services are expected to roll out in the country later this year and it seems OPPO wants to capitalise on this by offering 5G-ready smartphones across price segments. Additionally, as per the report by IANS, OPPO has set up its first 5G innovation lab in India to develop core technologies supporting the network and elevate global 5G experience in the overseas market outside of China.
“In 2021, we will carry on this growth legacy with much more innovative products and concepts to make the life of our users even better. Building upon our 5G and IoT product category will be one of the key focus areas for us,” Tasleem Arif, Vice President & Head, R&D OPPO India, told IANS (via Business Insider).
The company’s Hyderabad hub is said to be the first-ever R&D centre outside of China. “It’s playing a pivotal role in the development of 5G technologies,” added the report. The India R&D team of OPPO is reportedly working closely with leading industry chain partners like Jio, Airtel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, among others. OPPO said it has deployed its 5G standard patents in over 20 countries.
OPPO hasn’t revealed the timeline of when the rest of its 5G smartphones will be launched in India yet. Nevertheless, it looks like there will be a ton of 5G-ready devices when the network will make its debut in the country.
