Paytm was down in India as many users report facing issues with the app on New Year’s Eve. Paytm users on Saturday faced issues making UPI payments to merchants, with many complaining that they were unable to transfer funds. Other UPI apps including PhonePe, Google Pay and BHIM were also likely affected. This is likely due to server issues in the hours before midnight. According to DownDetector.in, close to 500 people reported issues with the Paytm app at around 7:30 pm. Since then, the app seems to be getting back online as reports have gone down.
It is unclear at the moment why Paytm faced an outage, but this is likely a server-level issue. UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which is a payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, is a way to transfer funds instantly in real time.
