Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea recently increased the prices of their prepaid plans in the country by up to 25 percent. The telecom networks have said this is to offer better quality service and also get reasonable returns for their capital. The common subscribers are at a loss considering the financial impact of this inflation. In the midst of all this, there’s a WhatsApp message circulating that appeals to users to switch off their mobile phone for four hours tomorrow i.e. December 18th, as a move to get back at Jio, Airtel, and Vi. It appears there’s a section of the general public that has opposed the price hike and raised a voice against telecom companies.
The WhatsApp message in circulation asks subscribers to switch off their mobiles phones between 10 am to 2 PM on December 18th. This is slowly becoming viral on social media, especially on WhatsApp as people are forwarding the message to each other and some are seen putting it up as a WhatsApp story. The source from where this message started isn’t immediately clear at the moment. While we understand the anguish against the price hike which might be non-affordable for some, we doubt switching off mobile phones for four hours would have any major impact on telecom networks. There’s also a question of how many will follow this viral message and switch off their mobile phones.
“All of you brothers are requested to follow this movement, to keep the mobile off tomorrow from 10:00 to 2:00. Airtel, idea Vodafone, Jio keeping mobile off for 2 hours will not harm your own benefit. The whole company is increasing the recharge time and again, which is bothering the people across the country. If instead of 299 it becomes 399, the recharge will still have to be done. Because nowadays all the work is being done from mobile, so tomorrow from 10:00 to 2:00, only 4 hours have to be kept off the mobile,” the message reads.
