Phones launched this week: Vivo S16 series, Infinix Zero Ultra, and more

The smartphone market is gaining steam right before the end of the year after a rather quiet November. Numerous new releases have taken place in the Chinese and Indian markets since the beginning of December. This covers anything from extremely low-cost devices to flagship models. In this article, we discuss a few of the most recent smartphone releases that took place last week. The list features products from OEMs like Samsung, Vivo, Infinix, and Lava. Let’s take a look at every phone that has been released this month.

Samsung Galaxy A04

The Galaxy A04 is one of many products that Samsung has announced before the end of the year. The Galaxy A04, a budget smartphone at its heart, features a 6.5-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution. The handset is powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 and has up to 4GB RAM and up to 128GB internal storage. On the optics front, the Galaxy A04 gets a dual camera setup on the rear with a 50MP main sensor along with a 2MP depth sensor. A small 5MP sensor on the phone handles selfies. Other features of the Galaxy A04 include a 5,000mAh battery, the OneUI 4.1 custom skin built on top of Android 12, 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS+GLONASS.

Samsung Galaxy A04e

Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy A04e, a scaled-down version of the Galaxy A04. Additionally, this model has a 6.5-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The MediaTek Helio P35 chipset powers the Galaxy A04e, which is offered in a variety of SKUs and has up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. About the cameras, the device has a 13MP rear camera, a 2MP depth camera, and an LED flash. For selfies and video calls, a 5MP sensor up front is used. The Galaxy A04e has a 5,000mAh battery, runs Android 12 out of the box with OneUI 4.1 custom installed on top, and has similar specs to the standard Galaxy A04 model overall.

The new S16 series, which will probably be released in India at some point next year under the “V” series, was also introduced by Vivo this week in the China market. The Vivo S16 sports a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution, HDR10+, and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor, up to 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage out of the box. On the rear of the S16 are three cameras: a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. For selfies and video calls, there is a 50MP sensor up front. Other specifications on the S16 include a 4,600mAh battery with 66W fast charging support, stereo speakers, Hi-Res audio, 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, and Android 13 with Vivo’s OriginOS skin on top.

Apart from a few minor differences, the Vivo S16 Pro and regular S16 models are extremely identical. The S16 Pro also sports a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution, HDR10+, and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The Vivo S16 Pro has a triple camera setup with a 50MP Sony IMX766V primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor on the back. A 50MP camera on the phone is used to snap selfies. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Zero Ultra touts a 200MP main camera with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor as far as optics are concerned. For selfies and video chats, there is a 32MP camera on the front with dual LED flash.
