“The astrophotography mode will work better on the Pixel 4 as it’s hardware allows for longer exposure shots”
The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a series will get some of the new camera features of the recently launched Pixel 4. The company has confirmed that features such as Live Caption and Astrophotography will be available for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and the Pixel 3a XL. The Pixel 4 series gets dual-rear cameras and several new features such as Live HDR+, Dual Exposure settings, Super High Res Zoom with the telephoto lens, and the improved portrait mode as well. However, one of the most impressive camera features on the new device is astrophotography in Night Sight.
The Google Pixel 4 can now take longer exposure photos with Night Sight and it enables some impressive photography. The improved Night Sight feature now allows users to take mind-blowing pictures of the night sky. Google calls it the astrophotography mode and it works by taking several long exposure shots of the sky and then stitching it into a four-minute exposure shot. This results in a night sky where you can see the stars and even the milky way galaxy.
Yes, the astrophotography mode is coming to older Pixel devices, but it won’t be as good as it’s on the Pixel 4. The new devices can capture long exposure shots thanks to hardware improvements and therefore, the photos are going to better. However, those who want to get the Pixel 4 just for this new feature, should probably just stick to their Pixel 3’s and 3a’s. Apart from the new astrophotography feature, Google will also bring the new Live Caption feature to the older devices.
With Live Caption, users can see a live transcription of any audio that’s being played in a video or audio on the device. The feature is actually part of Android 10 but will be exclusive to the Pixel 4 at launch. However, Google confirmed to Android Police that the Pixel 3 and 3a users will get this feature in the December software update. The latest Pixel 4 and 4 XL will not be sold in India because of the Soli radar chip, so it’s nice that some of the new features are being added to the phones that are available in India.
