POCO F1 will finally be able to stream HD videos on Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video

“POCO F1 MIUI 10.3.4 update brings much-awaited Widevine L1 support, Game Turbo mode, 4K at 60fps video recording, and more”

Xiaomi’s POCO F1 (review) is getting a new stable update which brings the MIUI version to 10.3.4. This 515MB update finally adds much-awaited Widevine L1 licence to stream HD videos on apps such as Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video. It also brings the Game Turbo mode that optimises and allocates CPU and GPU resources to improve the gameplay to offer consistent frame rates and graphics, the March security update, and more. The stable update comes roughly a month after the company started a beta testing for these features.

The POCO F1 was largely criticised for not including Widevine L1 licence at launch; however, the brand promised to work with partners to roll out the feature. Keeping its word, POCO first added the support through MIUI 9.2.25 beta update back in February. Widevine L1 licence allows users to watch HD content from streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Hotstar. However, POCOPHONE Head Alvin Tse confirmed that some streaming platforms are not willing to certify devices that have launched already, and this could be the reason HD playback still doesn’t work on Netflix. However, the brand’s India head C Manmohan said the company is working on bringing the Netflix support as well.

Game Turbo, which was under beta testing prior to today’s update, brings a pop-up overlay menu that offers various options including clear RAM, record gameplay, take screenshots, toggle Wi-Fi, and switching between SIM cards. It also includes shortcuts for apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and browser that open a floating window for you to quickly respond to notifications, all while you are in the game. The POCO F1 Game Turbo option can be enabled from the MIUI Security App. Other features include the ability to use face unlock to lock apps, 4K at 60fps video recording is now supported, as promised, and a new AI mode in camera.
