“The POCO Launcher 126.96.36.199 update adds the dark theme and other features to the POCO F1 smartphone”
Xiaomi has rolled out a new update for its POCO Launcher, bringing a new dark theme in launcher settings. The theme was first spotted on POCO F1 and can be found buried deep inside the Launcher Settings and is different than the system-wide Dark Mode that the company is currently working on. The new POCO Launcher update (version 188.8.131.52) also comes with bug fixes, new icon designs, ability to add custom apps to app vault, shortcuts, and more.
In order to activate the dark theme, Android Police reports users need to tap and hold the empty space on your handset’s Homescreen, then click on Settings icon > More > Background. From Background settings, a user can choose between a light or dark theme. Moreover, they can set the app drawer background transparency. The report adds, “If you have no transparency set up, the dark mode will turn all panes’ backgrounds to pure black, saving you some snake oil amounts of extra battery life versus just a grey mode.”
The POCO Launcher version 184.108.40.206 also fixes icon pack bugs and allow you to “add custom apps to App vault shortcuts and double tapping the screen to lock your device works on all compatible models now — including the Pixel 3.” As the POCO Launcher is available for download in Google App store, all Android users – not just those with POCO F1 – can use it and taste the new features, including the dark theme. Besides this, the app icons are said to appear sharper following the update.
Other than the POCO Launcher update, Xiaomi has also rolled out Widevine L1 support to POCO F1 smartphones. With that, users can now stream HD content from streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar (Netflix HD streaming service to be added soon). Meanwhile, Xiaomi has also been testing a system-wide dark mode with MIUI 10 Global beta ROM.
