POCO F2 Pro not launching in India, but POCO F1 successor in the works

Highlights
  • POCO F2 Pro will not launch in India
  • POCO F1 successor is reportedly in the works
  • POCO felt POCO F2 Pro was not a true successor to the POCO F1

POCO F2 Pro India launch is definitely not happening. This was revealed by POCO India GM C Manmohan in June and it has been reiterated by POCO’s Country Director Anuj Sharma in an interview with The Indian Express this week. The company will not be bringing the premium flagship phone to the country as it feels it is not a good upgrade over the POCO F1. However, Sharma added that the POCO F1 successor is in the works, but it will take some time to launch in India.

The Poco F1 was a device that changed the market and consumers expect the same from the successor. The Poco F2 Pro isn’t that device. We are working to bring a true successor to the Poco F1 but it will take time for us to develop it,” Sharma said.

So, it seems the POCO F2 exists, but fans in India will have to wait a while before they can see the device. The POCO F2 specifications have not been revealed yet, but we can expect the phone to use a flagship-grade chipset much like the POCO F1. The POCO F2 price in India is expected to be disruptive, at least that’s what the company is aiming for. We may hear more about the smartphone later this year or in early 2021.

In the same interview, Sharma also explained why some POCO phones are repackaged Xiaomi devices. The POCO M2 Pro, for example, is a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro while the POCO C3 is essentially the Redmi 9C China variant. The reason behind this is that “POCO is still a new brand and developing new phones for every series is a tough task,” Sharma said. “This is why POCO uses Xiaomi as a platform and improvises on top of it.”
