POCO F1 Widevine L1 support to stream HD content coming in Q4

“POCO F1 currently cannot stream videos in HD quality on apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime videos thanks to lack of Widevine L1 license”

Xiaomi‘s sub-brand POCO will be rolling out an update to add Widevine L1 support to its POCO F1 (review) smartphone. With this update, POCO F1 users will finally be able to stream high definition (HD) content on apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on the handset. At the moment, the video streaming is limited to just SD videos, something many a user complained about. Acting on user feedback, the company has announced it aims to issue the update to fix the matter in the next couple of months.

In a thread on the MIUI forum, Xiaomi said it is working with Google and Qualcomm to bring Widevine L1 support to the POCO F1. The forum post also reveals that the update will be rolled out to MIUI Beta ROM users first by Q4 2018. Later, the proper build of the Widevine L1 support will be released after all the bugs are ironed out.

Apart from that, Xiaomi has fixed the notification icon issue on the status bar. Till now, the notification bar does not show app icons to allow users to check at a glance which apps have pending notifications. The notification icons can be enabled under ‘Settings –> Notifications & Status bar –> Show Icons for incoming notifications’ on the upcoming MIUI 10 Global 8.10.17 beta update.

Xiaomi also said it is developing an option to let some apps that have not been optimised for the 18:9 aspect ratio to fully fill the screen in response to user requests for the same. Other features users can expect on the smartphone in the coming time include fixes for issues with Android Auto as well as Asphalt 8 and 9 compatibility, support for ‘OK Google’ commands, and a solution for touch delay or wrong input while fast typing. The company also said it is working to add 4K 60fps recording to POCO F1.

Apart from this, the company has recently rolled out an MIUI 9.6.24 update that brings several key improvements to the POCO F1 device. The notable improvements include better readability mode, camera stability, and the ability to adjust sleep time when the device is lying flat on a surface.
