Prediction: here’s when and where Ponniyin Selvan 2 could release on OTT

Highlights
  • Amazon Prime Video has streaming rights for Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2.
  • PS-2 could follow a similar OTT release schedule as part 1.
  • The Hindi version could release much later than other versions.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is one of the most highly anticipated movies in India, as fans eagerly await its release on OTT platforms after its box office release this week. After the massive success of the first part in 2022, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has also made a big impact at the box office and has garnered a lot of attention and praise for its stunning visuals, performances, and storyline. In case you are wondering when and where you will be able to watch Ponniyin Selvan 2 online in India, we might have some details for you.

Firstly, it has been confirmed that Amazon Prime Video has secured the digital streaming rights for Ponniyin Selvan 2, much like it did for the first installment. This means that Ponniyin Selvan 2 will stream on Prime Video in India, likely in five languages.

But the real question is when will Ponniyin Selvan 2 be released on Prime Video. Considering the release schedule of Ponniyin Selvan 1, the movie hit theatres on September 30th, 2022, and its OTT release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada happened on November 4th. This was a 6-week gap between the movie’s theatrical and OTT releases. Further, the Hindi version of the film came out on November 26th, which is about 9 weeks after the theatrical release.

If we are to assume similar timelines for Ponniyin Selvan 2, we could see the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions coming to Amazon Prime Video on or around June 9th, 2023. The Hindi version could arrive as soon as June 30th (or in its vicinity).

Do note that these are simply speculative timelines for PS-2 based on the release of PS-1. Due to the high popularity of the franchise, it could stay in theatres much longer than the prequel, thus likely delaying its OTT release.

Ponniyin Selvan Part Two continues the story of Arulmozhi Varman as he is determined to become Rajaraja I, the great ruler of the vast historical Chola empire from South India. The movie stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, Jayram Ravi, and more.
