Xiaomi has recently announced its partnership with Leica, a German camera maker that will be manufacturing the next Xiaomi flagship smartphone’s camera. The phone’s key specifications have also surfaced online in the past. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the upcoming Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor-powered Xiaomi smartphone.
Xiaomi Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone July launch
Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has shared(via) on Weibo that a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered (codename 8475) smartphone will debut in July. It will offer a major leap in performance and energy consumption, and will be by no means a simple half-generation upgrade, says Lei Jun. The phone is expected to be the long-awaited Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
Qualcomm took the wraps off from Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC last month, and Lei Jun has ensured that Xiaomi and Qualcomm have been tuning the processor for several months. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is crafted on TSMC’s 4nm process and brings 10 percent faster CPU and GPU performance over last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Since it is launching next month and the exact date is still a mystery, it’s unclear if the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be the first phone to pack a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, as other manufacturers, nameky OnePlus, Motorola, ASUS, iQOO, and Realme, are also planning to launch Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered flagship phones in the next couple of months.
