- Krafton could have used the PUBG Mobile moniker in the package name to improve the search results.
- Battlegrounds Mobile India pre-registrations have kicked off in the country today.
Battlegrounds Mobile India pre registration has begun and the game is listed on Google Play Store now. Krafton has so far tried to keep Battlegrounds separate from PUBG Mobile by not mentioning the latter anywhere on its official website or in the app’s description on Play Store. However, it seems Krafton has not fully cut ties with PUBG Mobile. Some keen-eyed people have spotted PUBG Mobile in the Battlegrounds Mobile India Play Store URL. To recall, PUBG Mobile was banned in India last September. It was later announced that an India-specific game called PUBG Mobile India would launch in the country. However, the name was retitled to Battlegrounds Mobile India earlier this month.
Battlegrounds Mobile India Play Store is still tied to PUBG Mobile
Android users can pre-register for the upcoming game from the Google Play Store. And this where things get interesting. As noticed by IGN India, the link to Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google Play Store mentions PUBG Mobile. Below is the link to Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google Play Store for your reference.
As you can see, the link to Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google Play Store has “com.pubg.imobile” in it. The last part of the link to an app on the Google Play Store is known as the app package name. So, when you install Battlegrounds Mobile India on your phone, the game will create a root directory named “com.pubg.imobile”. Currently, there is no information if Krafton deliberately decided to use this package name or it had to do so to follow rules and regulations on the Google Play Store.
Some publications and experts are speculating that Krafton might have used the PUBG Mobile moniker for the package name to improve the search results (SEO) of the Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google and other search engines. If the SEO for the game is better, it could fetch more traffic to the app and thus improve the visibility of the game to the public. This, in turn, will bring more users to Battlegrounds Mobile India in the country.
It is also worth mentioning that before PUBG Mobile got banned in India, the link to the game on the Google Play Store had “com.pubg.krmobile” in it. The term “kr” would’ve meant Korea. The link to Battlegrounds Mobile India has “imobile” in it, where the letter “i” could mean India.
Whatever the case, Krafton is still using the PUBG Mobile moniker for Battlegrounds Mobile India and it clearly shows that both games are one and the same or at least reflects that the two games are related. Can Battlegrounds Mobile India get banned in India as its Google Play Store link mentions PUBG Mobile? Well, only time will tell.
