Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 768G SoC with integrated 5G modem and updatable GPU drivers

Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC has been officially unveiled as an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 765/765G chipsets that were announced back in December 2019. Snapdragon 768G comes with Kryo 475 CPU and a prime core clock speed of up to 2.8GHz, accompanied by the Adreno 620 GPU that is clocked at 725 MHz. Qualcomm claims the new chipset can deliver up to 15 percent faster graphics rendering than Snapdragon 765G and the GPU drivers are updatable. The Snapdragon X52 5G modem offers download speeds of up to 3.7Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1.6Gbps, and it supports up to 120Hz screen refresh rate and Quick Charge 4+ fast-charging tech.

The Snapdragon 768G SoC supports all key 5G frequency bands, including mmWave and sub-6 GHz, as well as standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. It supports 4K HDR10 video playback and Hexagon Voice Assistant Accelerator for hardware-accelerated voice signal processing. The Snapdragon chip supports 22MP dual cameras or up to 192MP single camera with Qualcomm Spectra 355 Image Sensor processor. It can record 4K HDR videos and up to 10-bit colour depth video capture. The Snapdragon 768G SoC offers connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GLONASS, dual-frequency GNSS, NavIC, and GPS.

First smartphone with Snapdragon 768G SoC

Redmi K30 5G Extreme Edition is the first phone to ship with the latest Snapdragon 768G SoC. It has similar specifications as the standard Redmi K30 and an identical design. The handset flaunts a 6.67-inch full-HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It packs 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage that is further expandable via microSD card. Android 10 OS with MIUI 11 custom skin takes care of the software side of things.

The quad-camera setup at the back includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. It has is a 20MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor on the front. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security and the phone is splash-resistant (P2i coating). It packs a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast-charging support.
