Qualcomm Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 and S7 Pro Gen 1 chipset announced for audio devices

Qualcomm has released a new series of chipsets as it brings back focus to audio devices. The new Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 and S7 Pro Gen 1 chipsets are designed for earbuds, headphones and speakers. The S7 Pro also includes micropower Wi-Fi to take its capabilities way beyond what Bluetooth can make possible. Here’s all you need to know.

Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 and S7 Pro Gen 1 details

These new chipsets are set to deliver 100 times better AI performance compared to their predecessors. The Snapdragon S7 Pro Gen 1 sound platform is the first to support Qualcomm XPAN and micro-power Wi-Fi connectivity to extend range across the home, building or campus, with support for up to 192kHz lossless music quality.

The chipsets also feature Responsive 4th Gen ANC and an enhanced sound for gaming with spatial audio. The S7 Pro Gen 1 supports data rates of up to 29Mbps. With Snapdragon Sound, it delivers up to 24-bit 192kHz lossless music streaming over Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 5.4 with Bluetooth LE is present on both chipsets too. In terms of battery life, the S7 Gen 1 can deliver 10 hours of music streaming at 48kHz lossless audio and the S7 Pro Gen 1 can deliver the same with 96kHz lossless audio.

Snapdragon Seamless

Qualcomm also unveiled Snapdragon Seamless, which is a cross-platform technology that enables the seamless linking of multiple devices across multiple OSes, sharing peripherals and data. It’s already working with brands such as Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, ASUS, Honor, Lenovo, and OPPO which could implement this tech in their products soon.

Some of these multi-device experiences include:

  • Mice and keyboards can work seamlessly across PCs, phones and tablets.
  • Files and windows can be dragged and dropped across different types of devices.
  • Earbuds can switch intelligently based on the priority of an audio source.
  • XR (Extended Reality) can extend the abilities of smartphones.
