Realme 14T vs Infinix Note 50s 5G+ camera comparison: which affordable smartphone clicks better images?

Launched at Rs 17,999 a couple of weeks back, the Realme 14T (review) presents itself as yet another option in the ever-so-popular sub-Rs 20,000 segment for potential buyers. The handset rivals the likes of Infinix Note 50s 5G+ (review), which sells for Rs 15,999 and comes with a similar front and rear-facing cameras. To figure out which smartphone delivers better photography results, we pitted the Realme 14T against the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ by capturing shots in different scenarios, and the results are as follows:

Verdict

The Realme 14T achieves victory in scenarios like portrait and low light, while the Realme P3 Pro performs better in daylight and equally well in selfie shots.

Daylight

The Realme 14T boasts a 50MP primary rear camera with a 1/2.88-inch sensor size, while the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ is equipped with a larger 64MP 1/1.73-inch sensor. Both phones lack OIS in their main cameras.

While the colour science is similar on both phones, the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ delivers balanced contrast levels and produces boosted colours, making the image more appealing. The Realme 14T, on the other hand, shows less noise in darker areas of the image but slightly overexposes the background. The detail levels on both handsets are equally good for the price.

Winner: Infinix Note 50s 5G+

Portrait

Since both phones lack a dedicated telephoto lens, they utilise their main camera to capture 1x and 2x portrait shots. For the portrait image comparison, we clicked the image in the default 1x mode. Here’s how the phones fared:

In the image comparison above, the Realme 14T has almost everything right going for it compared to the Infinix Note 50s 5G+. It neither overexposes the background nor goes overboard with the bokeh. The handset retains the natural skin tone colour of the subject. The Infinix smartphone just has better edge detection for the hair.

Winner: Realme 14T

Selfie

The Realme 14T is equipped with a 16MP selfie shooter, while the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ has a 13MP front camera, which can record videos in up to 4K 30FPS. The Realme smartphone, however, is restricted to video recordings of up to 1080p at 30FPS.

In the selfie image comparison, the Realme 14T delivers sharper facial details while the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ tries to smooth the skin texture. However, the 14T overexposes the background, resulting in a bad HDR processing, which also affects the skin tones. Since both phones excel in different aspects, this image comparison ends in a tie.

Winner: Tie

Low-light

We tested both phones in low-light conditions with night mode enabled to see how their main camera performs under the night sky.

At night, the Realme 14T has an above-average exposure control with minimal to no blow-up in highlights. The image also offers plenty of details and sharpness. The Infinix Note 50s 5G+ blows up the highlights, resulting in hazy and unnatural colours. Although Realme wins this one, it could’ve done better with exposure, especially in the foreground, by slightly increasing the exposure levels.

Winner: Realme 14T

Final verdict

In our testing, we observed that the Realme 14T manages to control the highlights better from the back camera, while the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ has slightly better highlight control in selfie shots when human subjects are involved. The Infinix smartphone manages to output images with better contrast in daytime, while in low light, it goes overboard with exposure.

Simply put, if you want a phone that performs well in daylight, the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ is the way to go, while for low light and portrait shots, the Realme 14T would be a better pick. Also, if you prefer sharper facial details over dynamic range in selfies, then again, the 14T is the way to go. Since both phones lack an ultrawide and telephoto camera, the CMF Phone 2 Pro (review) is worth checking out for under Rs 20,000.
